A Million Little Pieces
2 journalers for this copy...
I just picked this up and see for myself what's up with the book. Now that we know that it's a work of fiction, I'll read it as a work of fiction. A good book is still a good book, right? Or not. I don't know yet because I need to read it first.
I am reserving it for soffitta1, winner of my Graduation RABCK. I'll be sending it when I return from Germany... I've started reading it and am taking it with me but once I get there, there's already a pile of books waiting for me. So I'm not sure when I finish A Million Little Pieces, but she should get it sometime in September. :)
This arrived this morning. Thank you so much!
This is the story of James' 6 weeks in rehab. Well told,if at times graphic, but necessarily so. He can be annoying at times, so sure of himself in a way. One thought that I can relate to is the way he doesn't pass the buck, blaming bad genes, childhood or experiences. This is one of my fundamental beliefs, that we are responsable for our actions, us alone. I can understand his sceptism of God in rehabilitation, it works for some, but not all, and I think he was trying to show us an alternative.
While I was in the States, there was something in the news about the book - people were getting refunds, it is not a strict memoir. Here is the link to the author's statement on the book: http://www.randomhouse.biz/media/pdfs/AMLP020106.pdf
(I have also pasted a hard copy in the back of the book).
I don't feel that this undremines the message of the book, but knowing that it is not all true does inevitably change your viewpoint. I would still recommend.
I am going to pass this on to a visiting friend. She enjoyed it and has left it here in Prague for me to release.
Gave to another friend, who is taking it back to the UK.
