Placeholder for when I'm not timed...

ETA 28 June 2007:

I don't like trying to make journal entries when I'm timed.

Speaking of timing, this ended up amusing completely by accident. I knew I'd bought it in LAX on the way home but never imagined I'd finish it a year to the day later. I actually started it on my first night in Prague but then class and other books interrupted and I wasn't able to finish it until the train from Munich to Zurich. Overall, I liked the stories. The author's way of writing was different to other travel writers as she's a journalist first, traveller second.

My favourite stories: the mini Mt. Fuji, the work of freeing Willy/Keiko, the fertility ceremonies in Bhutan and the Queens grocery store. As you can see, she covers a variety, from the seemingly mundane to the exciting. I think Bhutan piqued my curiosity the most because it's hard to imagine a place so remote, yet so magestic.

I think I might have to track down her other book - different perspectives are fun.

I think I had more to say, but unfortunately I don't remember :/

I collected this book from the City Backpackers bookshelf last week (the 3rd of Aug). I don''t usually read travel writing, but I was abandoning a few books on their bookshelf and it seemed a shame not to take some in exchange. I haven''t started it yet (I was being distracted by "Slow Man", by J.M. Coetzee, and "The Vagina Monologues" by Eve Ensler) but I''ll keep you posted when I do...
