A murder mystery set in Long Island in the late 1940’s with plenty of excellent historical and background information about the area. This I think was the reason for me that the mystery was a little slow to get going and at one time I nearly gave up. Get beyond this slow start and it is well worth reading as everything that came before begins to make sense!
Lillian Wallace youngest daughter of a wealthy New York family who have a summer home in East Hampton is found dead in mysterious circumstances.
Her death is declared an accident but two local men have their own good reasons to believe otherwise. Conrad Labarde, local fisherman who discovered the body and Tom Hollis, deputy police chief, individually unravel the mysteries behind Lillian’s death. Complex twists and turns lead to the conclusion, thanks to the collaboration of these two men.

I believe this is Mark Mills’s first novel though he is already an established script writer. Murder mysteries are not my favourite genre but I will certainly add this author to the list of thriller writers that I do enjoy. In fact The Savage Garden is already on my bookshelf, waiting to be read.

My apologies for keeping this title a little longer than I would normally but somehow travelling and Christmas got in the way of my reading! My husband actually read it when we arrived in the Uk and it was waiting at my Mums. He enjoyed it as well! I have already sent a pm to Releanna for an address, so hopefully it will be in the post soon.

I had a little trouble staying focused on this book. At times I was captivated and completely interested, and at times I just couldn't seem to stay with it. Though the last quarter of the book did keep my attention as the resolution was reached.

Mailing to Perryfran today.

Received in today's mail. This is the 3rd bookring book I have received in about the last week - seems they always come in bunches! I will try to get to this soon and keep it moving. Thanks for including me!

I thought this was a very interesting murder mystery set on Long Island in 1947. The book also provided some interesting history of fishing on the island and some details of the main character's role in WWII. It reminded me of maybe one of Dashiell Hammett's or Raymond Chandler's mysteries from the 40s but maybe not as hard-boiled. Overall, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.

Sorry I took so long with this book. I had several bookrings in front of it and a family emergency came up when I was reading the book. I have WelshHelen's address and will get the book in the mail to her tomorrow.
