This Book is Currently in the Wild!
7 journalers for this copy...
As is the case with all the Redwall books, Mossflower was great! I found this copy in the garage on my mom's bookshelf, so I'm taking it home with me.
I have started a bookring that includes this book and three others in the Redwall series. You can read any or all of the Redwall books, but please send all four together to the next person on the list.
When you are ready to send the books on, please PM the next person on the list for his or her mailing address. And remember to journal the books!
The bookring is still open, but I plan to keep it small, since each member will have multiple books to read and journal. Here's the bookring so far:
FutureCat--New Zealand
caligula03--CA, USA
midwinter--AZ, USA
Wandeca--Canada
Katayoun--Iran
tsmith51632--IA, USA (unreachable)
ukbrat--Canada
rhythmbiscuit
Enjoy!

Journal Entry 5 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Thursday, November 13, 2003
Ok, so I've just realised I've been reading these books in the wrong order! Not that it seems to have made a huge difference, considering that they're all set in totally different times, but I generally like to read series in the order they were intended.
Another readable story, but starting to feel a bit formulaic. And the problem with "prequels" is that you already know whether or not major characters survive (although this one has the advantage of being set a generation or two (?) before the other books).

Seeing as caligula03 has already read this one, I'm sending it straight on to midwinter.
This one was a little harder to swallow than Redwall. It was like Redwall +100 pages - a tad too long with not enough added to justify the length. It's similar to Redwall - there's heroes, battles, evil overlords, and tunneling ;) All-in-all, it's a good read, and I think I would have loved it if I hadn't *just* finished Redwall. They're too similar to read this close together.
On it's way to Wandeca in Canada tomorrow...

Came in today's mail...I'll be reading it soon. In the next couple of weeks.
I read Redwall in a few days, but I found Mossflower harder to get into.
I'm not if it's because Mossflower is a prequal. I probably should have read it before Redwall. But nevertheless I still enjoyed it.
I'll be mailing both Redwall and Mossflower to Katayoun, on Friday 9/01/04.

both books are here, with a couple of others!!! parcels posted from 3 months ago till 10 days ago! right they must have figured that my birthday is getting near and so i'd be happy :) well happy and a bit overwhelmed! got just one book on hand then would be starting these two, none of the rest is part of rings/rays, a big sigh of relief and a happy dance.
both are read and ready to be mailed, haven't yet heard from tsmith51632(hope that all is well with her) and so will mail tomorrow to ukbrat. the mice were fun and i really like martin the warrior, and i think i liked mossflower more than redwall, maybe because of the badgers? i don't know. ofcourse i have to come clean and say that i skimmed some parts, i just knew what was there and so maybe that's why i liked it more than redwall, it didn't seem that long! still i think i would like to read the rest, probably alot of skimming involved, cause i'd know what the story will be, a big evil, lot of brave woodlanders and a hero; still as i said the mice are cute.
mailed today, on it's way to ukbrat.
This is just a note to say that if any member of the bookring is sick of the Redwall books, and you want to be skipped on future books, let me know, and I will remove you from the list. I realize the plot formula gets repetitive and tedious after a while.

Looking forward to enjoying these books. Looking at the cover seems to have jogged something in my memory.

Another brilliant book by Brian Jacques. I really enjoy the characters and the traditional protagonist/antagonist plots. It makes for a fabulous fantasy read. This book being a prequel gave a good history to the first book Redwall. It helped to develop some gaps in the first book about the relationships between the animal. Looking forward to continuing on to the third book in this series!
