A Million Little Pieces

Frey said this book was nonfiction, but later confessed some parts were embellished. I can't wait to read this book.

I really enjoyed this book. There were parts that made me feel sick to my stomach, but overall it was a great story. It's too bad the whole story isn't entirely true, but I'm glad I read it even after the learning some parts were embellished. I would recommend this book and hope I can get more people to join the bookring.
Giving to gelezig to begin the bookring.
taking it camping, we'll see how much i get read
it took a while to get used the style of prose (read it, you'll see what i mean). also, all the histrionics concerning the book and its veracity take a little time to get over.
but it was a good read, and if you ignore the claims and counterclaims, it's quite enjoyable.

I almost didn't want to read this after all the press. turns out I enjoyed it anyway. love the writing style. i found the story inspirational and entertaining.

finally got this off in the mail. hope you enjoy!
Received today. Will get to it asap!
I enjoyed reading this book in spite of the press. The writing style was very different but not too hard to follow. I did "bog down" near the middle and had a hard time getting through, but it picked up again for me near the end.
There are several places where I would have questioned whether the story were really true even if I hadn't read the press on it, but overall I thought it was a very good story.

This arrived today in the mail and was quite a surprise as I forgot I signed up for this ring! I'll start it as soon as I finish the current book I'm reading.
This book was an extremely hard read for me. I don't necessarily care that some parts are embellished (I'm sort of curious to know which ones,) but the writing style drove me insane. I honestly do believe that Frey cheated his way through school as he claimed, for he clearly never mastered the rules of grammer and punctuation. The lack of dialogue punctuation especially got to me.
However, ignoring my grammer-Nazi self for a minute, the story wasn't bad. Certainly not the best I've read, but I am glad I read and experienced this. Thank you missprisy for that oppurtunity.
I'll have the book on it's way home soon.

Personally I thought there was way too much hype about the book both pre- and post Oprah flogging.
I thought the format was interesting.
I liked how he did the dialogue.
I hated the syntax the capitalization of words like: "Hall" or "Office" or "Room."
I hated the random bolding of sentences.
As accounts of treatments go I thought it was fair and well done, noting on riddiculous situations and quirky characters you meet.
Organized crime boss and fed. judge as pals, okay I'll bite.
He lost me on the back story about suicide trip to Paris.
Attempted molestation by French priest.
Je ne sais pas.
He is a clever man.
If he wasn't a white, male writer, I don't believe he would still have a publishing career. The lady who pulled the whole JT Leroy number has gone down in flames.
Aside from the accusations that he shopped it as a novel before getting a deal as a memoir, there were also accusations a lot was lifted from "Leaving Las Vegas" by John O'Brien. I hope to read that one soon to see for myself.
Setting aside for the next bookcrossing meetup in Boston I can attend either Feb. or March 2008.

Picked up at February Boston Bookcrossing Meetup, Cambridge, MA
Caught at the Saturday Chapter of the Boston Bookcrossers at Panera Bread in Coolidge Corners, Brookline. Taken to the Boston Hostel and released in the bookcase along the far back wall of the lobby.
As an addendum to my previous entry, I have just finished
"Leaving Las Vegas" by John O'Brien. Online many folks said Frey lifted passages from O'Brien. I don't know about that, but he definitely robbed him in style and tone and format.
Lesson learned, if you are going to steal, best steal from someone deceased and a bit obscure. I'm not sure why O'Brien's family estate did not make a ruckus but I believe there were some other legal issues they wrangled with regading the song/movie. As for Mr. Frey he sort of pulled a literary "new coke" & then went to recover in Frnace, again if you're going to be publicly embarassed by Oprah, France is a nice place to recover -- before going into book packaging business where he seems to have found a solid niche signing up MFA grads with stars in their eyes. Good luck to him/but I won't be reading anything by him in awhile. Tip of the hat and all that but I think he has some explaining to do (and not to me). Just saying...
