FROM THE BOOK:
"A leathery bog-man transforms an old love affair; a sweet, gruesome gift is sent by the wife of an ex-lover; landscape paintings are haunted by the ghost of a young girl. This dazzling collection of ten short stories takes us into familiar Atwood territory to reveal the logic of irrational behaviour and the many textures lying beneath ordinary life."

Starting it's bookring journey. Enjoy :o)
I love Margaret Atwood.
When I saw that Froggirlwendy was offering this up for a bookring, I just could not resist. Even though I so many other books to read...
Even though there are all these other books here in my tbr pile, I will try and read and post within 4 weeks.
Thanks again.

Oh, how I loved this book. It arrived at just the right time, and I was just ready to read it.
Things have been rather hectic with work, and I have been dashing off here and there, doing all sorts of silly things, but each evening, as I settled down to sleep, it was rather fun to lay back and just read one little story from this book of short stories.
I don't normally care for short stories, and usually prefer something meatier and more absorbing, but this week, this has been perfect.
Through out all the stories, there appeared to be a few common threads. Older women, in a post-feminist Canada. The women were mostly the 'other', living outside the traditional norms, challenging traditions and even themselves at times.
My favourite story was 'Hairball'. I would love to say why, but then I would be spoiling the story.
Thank you FroggirlWendy for sharing your books with me.

Arrived today. It's the only bookring I have at the moment so it will be next.
I enjoyed most of these stories. My favourites were "Hairball" and "Death By Landscape".
I think I prefer Margaret Atwoods full length novels more than her short stories.
Posting to cat207 tomorrow.

Arrived in today's mail. Will go onto my pile of 'wendy' books TBR. Thank you AmberC and froggirlwendy for sharing.
Not my favourite Margaret Atwood but some good short stories. My favourite definition from 'Weight':- Menopause - A pause while you reconsider men.
Have PMed DrCris for an address.
12/06/06 - DrCris has asked to be skipped. Have PMed KLL for address.

Received in the post today - thanks very much! I'll be reading it as soon as I've finished my current book :-)
I've always been ambivalent about short stories, generally preferring novels. However, this year I've read a couple of short story collections that have really improved my estimation of the form - and Wilderness Tips is one of them. I do have to admit that Atwood's novels have had far greater emotional resonance for me, but like jubby I really enjoyed settling down and reading one complete tale each night before bed. My favorite stories were 'Uncles', 'The Age of Lead' and 'Wilderness Tips'.
Thanks very much to froggirlwendy for sharing, I'll PM BellaMack now. :-)
