on my path to grab-the-Irving I found this book too. It was after the hunt still near Hotel Greulich, untouched.
"_" If only I had hunted in this direction, instead of losing my time to bookless places in Niederdorf ...

The good thing: This book is a comic thriller and has nothing to do with the equally named Rugby Club. The less good thing: it’s somehow encrypted. If your have no British mother-tongue you hardly can understand a quarter of all the puns; if you are not a native Londoner (knowing the Millenium Dome) you can’t laugh about the picture on the cover ... (the wasp is redundant, IMHO)

In the first chapter (narrated by a wee girl) a terrible car accident happens. In the second chapter the wee girl has grown up and runs a crêpe-stall in Greenwich. In the third chapter (well, maybe at the end of the second one) we learn that not the girl is talking but a young man named Bic ...
Ok., it lacks a bit of dramaturgy but it’s throughout funny and a page-turner. That is, at first its hilarious comic-style needs some habituation.

Radcliffe is best when he subtly describes landscapes and architecture - he overdoes when it comes to actions and dialogues and lacks there completely seriousness. You see a brillant writer as long he doesn’t play the clown . But then he gives the topic away to comical shallowness. Nevertheless Radcliffe’s humour is still black like guinness, and there is a lot to laugh. Also you might learn a bit of lingo ^__^

I almost stopped reading the book after the first 20 pages or so. And I should have done so.
The book didn't convince me. After a while it was too comic, and too predictable. But I had to finish reading it anyway.

Very enjoyable at the beginning and neatly closed out at the end, but it lost it's way and got a little bogged down in the middle.

I appreciate all the comments about in jokes. I definitely think you need to be Irish even more than a Londoner to get the jokes. Some very witty black comedic moments.

All in all the charcters were very well rounded out. Good read
