Book Description
Set in 2059 in New York City, the number-one bestselling In Death series has given fans a searing glimpse into near-future law and order. Now, as scientists work to expand the limits of technology, Detective Eve Dallas tracks the cunning, cold-blooded killer of a father and son.

A pioneer of modern reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Wilfred B. Icove, is found dead in his office-murdered in a chillingly efficient manner: one swift stab to the heart. Struck by the immaculate condition of the crime scene, Dallas suspects a professional killing. Security disks show a stunningly beautiful woman calmly entering and leaving the building-the good doctor's final appointment.

Known as "Dr. Perfect," the saintly Icove devoted his life to his family and his work. His record is clean. Too clean for Dallas. She knows he was hiding something and suspects that his son-and successor-knows what it is. Then, like father, like son, the young Dr. Icove is killed . . . with the same deadly precision.

But who is the mystery woman-and what was her relationship with the good doctors? While her husband, Roarke, works behind the scenes, Dallas follows her darkest instincts into the Icoves' pasts. What she discovers are men driven to create perfection-playing fast and loose with the laws of nature, the limits of science, and the morals of humanity.

Dr. Wifred Icove is found dead in his office. Who would have possibly wanted him dead? He was Dr. Perfect. He and his son ran a very successful cosmetic and reconstructive surgery practice. Everybody loved him.

Eve Dallas, police lieutenant in the year 2059 believes everything is a bit too perfect. No one is a saint. This looks like a professional hit but who would have wanted the good doctor dead? Dalllas starts out with her dogged persistence and wonderful gut instinct and follows through until she nails the killer.

I loved this book the best so far. The subject matter is very creepy and the reader is pulled down into the 'what if' scenerario which makes for some interesting hypotheses. As always Robb brings these characters to life and more than a mystery the repartee is just fun to read

7 out of 10

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is in the same building as a murder, when it happens, so she arrives on scene quickly to find Dr. Icove Sr. with a scalpel in his heart. On the surface, Dr. Icove looks like a squeeky clean plastic surgeon. But Eve knows no one can be that clean and starts to dig deeper. While she wonders where Icove is spending his free time, she finds some encrypted patient files on his computer. All of the patients are female, in the same age range, and labelled by a letter and number rather than a name. As Eve begins to investigate this even further, Dr. Icove's son is killed in a similar manner. Eve knows that the two were working on something illegal and needs to figure it out quickly before more people are killed.

This is one of the more futuristic books of the 'In Death' series. I'm not sure I liked it as much as some of the others. It was too out there for me. That being said, the ending surprised me. I didn't think Eve could let something go even if it was morally right but criminally wrong. When the whole series harps on how Eve holds the criminal law in such high regard it's a bit unbelievable that she can put morals and what's right above that for one book. I'm not too sure what to think.

My mom, AceofHearts, passed away from breast cancer on September 17, 2013. Aside from being one of the best people I know, she was an avid reader and took immense pleasure in Bookcrossing, her book club, and reading many great books. This book is one that we both read, as we had been reading J.D. Robb's 'In Death' series together, and she listed as available to pass along to someone else.

I will be releasing this in my mom's memory.
