4/22: I thoroughly enjoyed this book! A fast-paced, easy read. I completely relate to Shannon's experiences. I want to be her friend! We could go shopping. At Target. :)

My husband picked up the mail today, well actually yesterday technically, on his way to work. The bad thing about this good deed is that he doesn’t get home from work until after 1am. So I did really receive this book on the 23rd.

Thank you so much for trading! I can’t wait to read this book. This looks so fascinating. I love the idea of a "Target Patch" that is mentioned on the back flap about the author. I think my husband and I both could use one of those.

As soon as I get the one promised to you read it will be off in the mail. Thanks!

I just started reading this book yesterday and I am already on page 247. This book is going to end much sooner than I would like. There is so much in this book that I can relate too. I think though since it is 3am I will wait to tell more of my thoughts. Part of what made me come journal was the fact that I just flashed back on a wonderful memory of sailing around the San Juan Islands. In the book Shannon goes sea kayaking around the Islands. This just happens to be a dream of mine.

Thank you so much dear friend for sending me this book! It is going to be so hard to finish it and know her next book does not arrive until next year. Off to bed now to read more.

The picture is one I took on 8/17/03 in Anacortes, WA, the gateway to the San Juan Islands! I was so blessed to be there for a wedding.

This is such a fun and quirky book to read. Anytime I get to call a book quirky, I am a happy camper. I just did not want this book to end as I was just enjoying Shannon Olson’s writing style too much. I wish her next book, Children of God Go Bowling, was coming out sooner than 2/04!

There was so much I related to in this book. A lot of it was the Scandinavian aspects being part Norwegian (plus add some German to me to make me stubborn) myself. Living back in Minnesota can be like saying you are in Scandinavian Lutheran land. My husband is a “recovering” Catholic so I understood her growing up Catholic. It was so funny reading about her time in St. Olaf as I had friends from the west coast attend there and even though they were Lutheran’s they hated it as it is a whole different style of Lutheran, Midwestern style.

There was so much else I related too also that was not so superficial. I just felt I really understood her character. What an amazing first book. I will definitely have to get a copy for myself. I just don’t want to let this book go. :)

Too bad my sister did not take to heart Shannon’s wise words on page 13. “Sometimes people come together like a bad chemical combination; sometimes two people bring out the worst in each other.” My sister will be turning 30 and her current relationship is summed up in that sentence.

Thank you so much dear ellymae58 for sharing this book with me! It is now off to another BCer.

The red is in honor of Target. Let's make it a threesome ellymae58! hehehe

I received this book in the mail from fellow bookcrosser kbgoffe. Thanks so much for sending it. It looks really good and I am eager to read it.

Book Description:

Welcome To My Planet is a novel that happens at the most neurotic point in one's life--when not dating is as acceptable a social form as dating; when early-morning NPR, infomercials, and VISA provide more thrill and companionship than grad school or one's day-job colleagues, and the daily struggle to get out of bed and interact with higher life forms than the plants or the TV remote takes on near-cosmic significance. Welcome to a center of the universe that's not London or New York, but Minneapolis, USA, where life just isn't The Love Boat for thirty-one year old Shannon, our tongue-in-cheek heroine. Between trips to Target and her parent's house to do laundry, Shannon visits a therapist called The Counselor and tries to get her life together. In a voice that's funny and as raw as your sister's bachelorette party, Shannon Olson brings an up-front perspective on issues of family and love, therapy and debt, and the occasional comforts of a few drinks. She speaks directly to young and not-so-young women who know that Mom's a great place to visit when you can't quite find yourself.

This book will be going to the used book store to make room on Mount TBR. Though this book will be long gone, I was able to acquire an electronic copy of this book to read on my Kindle. I will update this space with my review after I've read it.
