Birchfield Library in Birmingham is being rebuilt because of damp problems and a lot of their book stock has been redistributed to other libraries... and others are being sent to be recycled. I rescued this one before it could be destroyed.
Amazon Book Description
When a burglary goes wrong on the opening night of his new restaurant, Jack Keller is left a widower and suffering from several bullet wounds. In emotional and physical turmoil he becomes a self-pitying recluse, until Kid Demeter, a young man Jack once regarded as a son and who is now a formidable physiotherapist, bullies him into better health. Then Kid is found dead, but Jack cannot accept the view that his death was either accidental or suicide. Knowing he owes Kid for getting his own life back on track, Jack starts to investigate Kid's personal life and discovers he was a serial womaniser. He begins to identify and locate these women, but every time he speaks to one of them they end up dead. Then, as he edges closer to the truth of Kid's death, he realises that his wife's murder was the catalyst of all that followed.

- It's not a race, but please read and send the book on as speedily as you can, other people are dying to read it too.
- Please journal the book once you have received it (so we all know where it currently is) and again when you have read it (so we know what you thought of it!)
- If you're the last person on the list (i.e. we run out of members) the book comes back to me until there are more interested parties...
Sorry I didn't get longer to chat to you but thanks so much for the loan of this book off my wishlist. I had a fab time, and it is so nice to put names to faces now..hugs xxx
Firstly, sorry for having this so long. I'm sure Alice won't mind as it was originally a loan not a ring!
Secondly, wow! What a great book. I almost sent it on unread, but I'm so glad I didn't. It starts off with a really disturbing happening, athen lulls you into a false sense of security before dealing you one blow after another.
I did guess the 'baddy' from quite an early stage, but this did not spoil the impact of the book. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.
Off to NotingNothing in the morning. Thanks for sharing, AliceF xxxx

I can't put my finger on what I didn't like about this book. I empathised with the central character, liked the way it was all constructed, the ending, and thought I should have really enjoyed it. However it was one of those books that compelled me to read until the end, but which left me a little ambivalent. Ah well!
Posting to Twynnie today.

Thia arrived today, it's in a queue of bookrings but I'm getting through them pretty fast! I'm looking forward to reading this one, thanks to AliceF for sharing and to bigcurlyloz for passing it on to me!
I did like this book, but it wasn't one of those books that really involved me in the story. I empathised with Jack but all the other characters weren't really fleshed out enough - a lot of them didn't get a chance before they met an unhappy end! It was exciting enough to make me want to keep reading but the eventual ending did .seem a little contrived (How likely is it that so many bad things involving heights could happen to one man in his life time? )
Still a fun read though - it is now on its way back to notingnothing as Sterile is busy and has asked to be skipped.

Received a message (a few weeks ago) from notingnothing that she didn't realise she "wasn't last on the list for this one *gulp*; will try and get a move on, lol!"
