Picked up several boxes of books, from a very generous person on craigslist.org, to stock up our playroom bookshelves. A few of the books are aimed at a higher age range than our playroom is - like this one. To be released.

Found yesterday, without dustjacket, in front of our next door neighbor's house. My guess, as this book wasn't alone, is that they also took a bunch of the "many many other books", tried to sell them, and this was one of a few that didn't sell. I'm unsure what I will do with it. Perhaps it will be OBCZ'd at the Oak & 22nd Starbucks.

The only thing I didn't like is the fact that the author obviously wrote the book with the intent of it being made into a movie. This is clear in his pacing and cut aways.

That being said.. the book itself was fantastic, I really enjoyed it.

I'll be blogging on this one on my own sight with a 'must read' recommendation.

It was fun, I liked the characters and their interaction and the science wasn't full of crap completely.

Deepsix was my favourite jump into Sci-Fi in a long time. Of course I haven’t been reading a lot of sci-fi lately so that might explain it, but more likely it was just a good book :)

The story was fun, the characters were real and the back story was well thought out. For me it seemed a great way to deal with a Deus-ex-machina ending from a previous story and shed some light on it. That won’t make any sense to anyone who hasn’t read the book, but it’s not a spoiler and that’s the way it makes me think.

I would have changed the ending a bit, the plausibility went down just a touch even beyond the ‘temporary suspension of disbelief’ normally associated with sci-fi. But it was still a great read, perhaps more fun because it’s been a while since I read a good sci-fi book.

Rating: 7/10

Buy it?: No, it was fun but I likely won’t re-read it.

A running friend of mine told me about the Book Crossing shelves at the Starbucks at Oak & 22nd in Vancouver. He regularly takes & contributes from there. I took this book off him before he could put it on the shelf & promised to participate. It was a little slow to start, but all came together, and in the end I couldn't wait to see what happened. Pretty good sci-fi. I'll take it back to the same Starbucks later this week.
