Arrived today - thanks!

Description:

Bill Wile is an easygoing, hardworking guy who leads a quiet, ordinary life. But that is about to change. One evening, after his usual eight-hour bartending shift, he finds a typewritten note under the windshield wiper of his car. If you don’t take this note to the police and get them involved, I will kill a lovely blond schoolteacher. If you do take this note to the police, I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work. You have four hours to decide. The choice is yours.

It seems like a sick joke, and Bill’s friend on the police force, Lanny Olson, thinks so too. His advice to Bill is to go home and forget about it. Besides, what could they do even if they took the note seriously? No crime has actually been committed. But less than twenty-four hours later, a young blond schoolteacher is found murdered, and it’s Bill’s fault: he didn’t convince the police to get involved. Now he’s got another note, another deadline, another ultimatum…and two new lives hanging in the balance.

Suddenly Bill’s average, seemingly innocuous life takes on the dimensions and speed of an accelerating nightmare. Because the notes are coming faster, the deadlines growing tighter, and the killer becoming bolder and crueler with every communication–until Bill is isolated with the terrifying knowledge that he alone has the power of life and death over a psychopath’s innocent victims. Until the struggle between good and evil is intensely personal. Until the most chilling words of all are: The choice is yours.

Koontz at the top of his form! Just finished reading this and I was very pleasantly surprised. The last few Koontz novels I have read including "Fear Nothing," "Seize the Night," and the dreadful "The Taking", were quite disappointing to me - especially after some of his earlier books that I loved like "Watchers" and "Lightning". Anyway, Velocity was a real thrill ride and probably the best Koontz I have read since "Intensity." A real page-turner that keeps you guessing up to the end. I highly recommend this one!

Thanks krin511 for including me. I have your address and will be getting the book off to you today.

9 out of 10

Well, I finally finished it, and thoroughly enjoyed it!
I agree with Perryfran; after the terrible "The Taking" (unfortunately lost to Tammysavala's scam!), this was a very pleasant surprise.
Beautifully written, a real page-turner...
Kept me guessing until the very end.
I will probably start another bookray with it, being the last one in this one. It seems to be in many members' wish lists...
Thanks for sharing, krin511!

Although the mystery was very good (my suspicions kept shifting anyway), I don't think this is one of Koontz's best. I don't regret the time spent though. Thanks for sharing, bookwormlady.

Book came in yesterday! Thank you so much! Seeing as I'm the bottom reader on the totem pole, I hope you all don't mind if I don't get to it right away; I've got a few other bookrings/rays to complete as well and I don't like to keep others waiting too long if I can help it.

If someone else shows an interest in joining this ring/ray, could you please let me know? Else I don't know what I'll do with the book once I've finished it.......would you want it back, krin?
