From the back cover: "In the summer of 1977, Victoria Leonard's world changed forever -- when Caitlin Somers chose her as a friend. Dazzling, reckless Caitlin welcomed Vix into the heart of her sprawling, eccentric family, opening doors to a world of unimaginable privilege, sweeping her away to vacations on Martha's Vineyard, a magical, wind-blown island where two friends became summer sisters... Now, years later, Vix is working in New York City. Caitlin is getting married on the Vineyard. And the early magic of their long, complicated friendship has faded. But Caitlin has begged Vix to come to her wedding, to be her maid of honor. And Vix knows that she will go -- for the friend whose causal betrayals she remembers al ltoo well. Because Vix wants to understand what happened during that last shattering summer. And, after all these years, she needs to know whay her best friend -- her summer sister -- still has the power to break her heart."

I loved Judy Blume when I was a kid, so I thought this book would be fun. Sadly, I was mistaken. I detested this book. In a nutshell the story is: a group of people spend a bunch of summers together and end up sleeping with each other. You'd think that a book with this much sexual content wouldn't be boring, but it was dull, dull, dull. Not only was it tedious, it was actually offensive -- not in a "this is too explicit" manner, but rather in how it reinforced social stereotypes (ie: anything other that heterosexual relationships are deviant). This seems to be a popular book, so I'm going to release it and hope that the next person who ends up with it enjoys it more than I did.

In the spirit of book crossing I'm going to send this one out into the world. Because of the sexual content I did not want to leave it "out in the open," so I'm sending it to mericat who had this book on her wish list.
