I picked this book up with 2 more by this author in Edinburgh last week. They were part of a 3 for 2 offer and I wouldn't have normally picked up all 3 books at once otherwise. Actually I had never heard of this author or the books before but my boyfriend pointed them out and said it sounded like something I would like. So I will blame him if they aren't any good :)

This is the second book in the series.

Journal Entry 2 by Amberkatze from Wien Bezirk 10 - Favoriten, Wien Austria on Friday, July 21, 2006
Another great book! I really like this author and I am really pleased I bought all 3 books in the series at once. I will have to check if there are anymore!

I won't write anything about the story because I don't want to give anything away. However this time the main character also travels to Edinburgh as part of her job which meant I knew the places she was talking about :)

I will be passing this on to my friend to read and when I get it back I will decide what the future holds for this book :)

I caught this from Amber (as I often do!) I didnt like it quite so much as the first, but I did like how it interlinked with the story from Driftnet with this one. Half the joy of reading Scottish books for me is knowing the locations so well and being able to visualise the story. Something about the ending bugged me, i dint think the bad guy was introduced enough throughout the book, but the tension and twists leading up to finding out who the bad guy was, were really well done.

Journal Entry 6 by soleille from Leipzig, Sachsen Germany on Wednesday, January 3, 2007
This sounds like as great a read as the first book, but will have to wait in line between a few other rings first.

Journal Entry 7 by soleille from Leipzig, Sachsen Germany on Saturday, January 27, 2007
Woah I do love Lin Anderson! As the first one, this is a gripping thriller with enjoyable characters which I read through in a rush (again, way past my bedtime, it is that unputdownable) and which leaves me yearning for more.
Apart from the 3rd book in the spiral, has she written more?
This was a bit easier to digest than the first one, but still heart-wrenching at times. The issues she addresses are really bleak sometimes (homeless kids murdered this time) and her writing really gets to you- amazing how deeply you can care for fictional characters! But this really makes me wonder whether there is something in the water in Scotland that makes writers so melancholy- ALL the good recent fiction from over there I've read is really really bleak- but I love it!
Again, thanks for introducing me to this great author and please can I have my next fix? LOL
Waiting for confirmation whether Twynnie's addy is still current

Journal Entry 8 by soleille from Leipzig, Sachsen Germany on Friday, February 2, 2007
sent off to Twynnie today - enjoy!

Journal Entry 9 by Twynnie from Royston, Hertfordshire United Kingdom on Monday, February 12, 2007
This arrived today, I'm looking forward to it as I enjoyed the last one a lot. Thanks Amberkatze for sharing and thanks to soleille for passing it on!

Journal Entry 10 by Twynnie from Royston, Hertfordshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, February 21, 2007
Another great read from Lin Anderson - I will look forward to the third in the series! This was such a quick read as I couldn't wait to get to the conclusion. I like Rhona as a character, she's very easy to be sympathetic with.

I will PM clawdette to check her address is current and get this moving again as soon as possible.

Journal Entry 11 by clawdette from Houma, Louisiana USA on Friday, March 9, 2007
recieved today, will journal when read

Journal Entry 12 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Thursday, May 31, 2007
I got distracted and forgot to journal the arrival of this book on Tuesday.

Journal Entry 13 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Wednesday, June 6, 2007
I didn't like this one quite as much as the first book. The bad guy wasn't nearly as well defined as he could have been. Otherwise the story was interesting and well written. I'm looking forward to the third book.

Will be mailing to MrsGaskell in the morning.

Journal Entry 14 by wingrem_CJL-230711wing on Monday, June 18, 2007
This arrived in today's mail along with the prequel to Driftnet. Looking forward to starting these - hopefully within the next week.

Journal Entry 15 by wingrem_CJL-230711wing on Sunday, June 24, 2007
Another quick and interesting read but perhaps not quite as good as the first book. I think I would have to agree with kate108 and sarradee about the villain - it seems he was pulled out of nowhere rather late in the book.

I expect to be seeing gypsysmom at our bookclub meeting tomorrow evening so will pass this on then.

Thanks Amberkatze for sharing and sarradee for passing it on!

Journal Entry 16 by gypsysmom from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada on Monday, June 25, 2007
I'm going to take this book with me this weekend when we go away for the long weekend. If it is as quick a read as Drifnet I'd better pack some more. Thanks again for sharing amberkatze.

Journal Entry 17 by gypsysmom from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada on Wednesday, July 4, 2007
As suspected this was a quick read but I agree with others that perhaps it wasn't quite up to Driftnet. I too felt the villain was pulled out of the hat.

#SPOILER ALERT#
I actually was sure that the villain was going to be the one from the first book but I was glad to find out at the end that he had died in the hills after his escape.

I did like the inclusion of the dog in this book. Of course, I'm a sucker for any intelligent animal in a book.

I am sure hoping that in the third book Rhona and Sean get back together. I'm also a sucker for a sax player and he seems like a much better match for her than an incipient alcoholic.

#SPOILERS OVER#

Rhona ranks up there with Temperance Brennan for intelligent yet empathetic women detectives and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books. Thanks Amberkatze for getting these out to the wider world. I will pm WelshHelen immediately and get this book and the prequel off to her as soon as I get her address.

Journal Entry 18 by gypsysmom from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada on Wednesday, July 11, 2007
I didn't get any answer from my pm to WelshHelen but as she instructed on her bookshelf page I checked RABCK.com and got her address from there. So I will be mailing this book and Blood Red Roses off at noon today and I hope it will make it to WelshHelen okay.

Journal Entry 19 by WelshHelen from Ponthenri, Wales United Kingdom on Wednesday, July 18, 2007
Arrived safely today, thanks, gypsysmom and thank you for investigating a bit further and getting my address :-)

Journal Entry 20 by WelshHelen from Ponthenri, Wales United Kingdom on Monday, September 17, 2007
I think I enjoyed this even more than Driftnet! The introduction of Severino certainly made sparks fly and I found their relationship intruiging. Like gypsysmom, I loved the dog :-) and his new owner. I too, though, thought that the baddie was almost plucked out of the air, but I was so into the book by then that I almost didn't care :-)

Many apologies to Amberkatze and everyone following me in the ring - I'm ashamed to say that I've had this book for 2 months - sorry! I'm waiting to hear from AmaniS and as soon as I have an address, the book will be in the post.

Journal Entry 21 by WelshHelen from Ponthenri, Wales United Kingdom on Tuesday, October 2, 2007
Finally posted to Rianonne yesterday (I didn't hear back from AmaniS and DiamondLucy asked to be skipped) Very many apologies for the delay.

Journal Entry 22 by Rianonne from Wien Bezirk 22 - Donaustadt, Wien Austria on Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Received yesterday with "Blood Red Roses"!

Journal Entry 23 by Rianonne from Wien Bezirk 22 - Donaustadt, Wien Austria on Friday, October 26, 2007
This was just as good as the first book in the series. I was hooked at once and had to read it in one sitting thanks to the turning and twists in the story :)
My heart went out to Jaz and the dog and I enjoyed the development of Rhona. Only the bad boy wasn't well enough introduced and so it left a rushed feeling ...
