I thought 'Eats Shoots & Leaves' was better - this is a more repetitive rant - shorter would have been funnier IMHO.

I'm going against the grain here - I preferred this to Eats, Shoots & Leaves, but then, I think I read it at just the right time for me. I've become increasingly aware that I'm turning into a "mutter, grumble, the young people of today have NO manners, mutter, grumble, speak up young man" kind of person (despite having relatively elastic, taut elbow skin, lol) so this book struck many chords. Of course, it's true that "attitude to manners is ... self-defined and self-exonerating" and many of the things the author doesn't like just don't bother me. But you can't write a ranty book about the lack of manners in modern society if you discuss the things that don't bother you ...
