O Jerusalem (Mary Russell Novels (Paperback))
8 journalers for this copy...
I think this is the best book in the Mary Russell series-so far. In fact, liked this book so much I gave a few for Christmas presents! I enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes stories when I was young and have had a lot of fun reading these "sequels". Although I am not an expert in the Holmes stories, I thought the author did a good job staying true to Conan Doyle's character. I also liked how the author paired a bright female with him in place of Watson-very interesting exploration of how the Holmes character would respond to a more "modern" society. I am pairing this book with The Beekeepers Apprentice for an international bookray.
Bookray Guidelines:
•Make a journal entry when you get the book.
•Try not to keep the bookray more than 6 weeks.
•Make a journal entry after you read the book. I will be interested to find out if you think the author has done justice to Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character and if you found any inconsistencies in the Holmes details.
•PM the next person on the list for their address when you are almost finsished with the book and make a journal entry when you mail it.
•PM Thursday5 with any problems you have with the bookray.
•Last person in the ray is encouraged to release the books locally.

Rec'd this today as a part of a bookray started by Thursday5. Thank you so much!
Another thoroughly satisfying novel; although I have to say I liked The Beekeeper's Apprentice more. Perhaps it was the wandering and landscape that made my attention lag slightly. But I must say, all in all, this is a really enjoyable story idea and I truly look forward to reading the rest of the series!
I am awaiting a response from Yvensong so I can send these along the ray.

This arrived with The Beekeeper's Apprentice. I'll get to this one as soon as I've finished that one.
Thanks so much for sharing these with us!
I did a search for an old friend of mine and discovered he still runs the local chapter of the Sherlock Holmes society I used to belong to. I also learned there's a local chapter where I live now! I think after I read these books, I'll contact them.

This was a very good book, though I enjoyed The Beekeeper's Apprentice more. I think part of the reason for that is Beekeeper's set more in the premise and atmosphere more common in Holmse-ian stories.
After several attempts at reaching the next reader and obtaining an address, success! This book is now on its way to Aylaeh.

Received this today. I love getting books in the post!
I'll journal again as soon as I've read it.

Although I really enjoyed The Beekeepers Apprentice, I found this book slow going and I suppose wasn't really engaged in the subject matter. It is an excellent pairing with The Beekeepers Apprentice though as it fills in the gaps of the earlier story. I did find the latter parts of the book far more interesting and quite exciting and found myself sorry that it had ended!
Will contact Heaven-Ali and send this on asap.
Although I didn't enjoy it as much as the last...thank you Thursday5 for sharing,x

I enjoyed this every bit as much as The Beekeepers's apprentice. I loved the setting of this book, and the characters of Mahmood and Ali. Great adventure, and Holmes remains as brilliant, frustating and heroic as he always was. Mary Russell is a wonderful creation, and the perfect pairing for Holmes. Thanks for sharing.

What an amazing novel - full of sights, sounds, languages, history, food (and lack of it), pleasure and pain and above all characters. For a while I thought the plot was more complicated than it was but this book is both exciting and informative. Laurie King manages to make Holmes human and almost likeable and Mary Russell is the ideal apprentice - willing to try anything as long as she can have a bath from time to time. I loved it.
The book made it to the end of the bookray!
Many thanks go to all the participants for being so dependable and passing it along in a timely manner. It was a pleasure to allow fellow Bookcrossers to discover this series that has brought such enjoyment to me.
PS
I just finished the most recent book in the series and it was just as good as all the others.
