Enjoyed this book. I thought I had it all figured out early on but nope, I was wrong! I would have liked an epilogue because I want to know more of the story. I think this will make a great bookray.

Updated 3Apr10 upon finishing novel:
I really enjoyed this book. It had a decent plot and was a fast read as I read it in about two days. At one point, I did think I knew “who” it was but was surprised.

I can only imagine the pain of losing a child. In this instance, it caused a rift in the entire family structure which you will read about as I don’t want to be a spoiler. I do feel that there were a few unanswered questions at the end of the story. Now these things are not essential to the story, just would have been nice to see all the characters have some closure for the reader. A few of the things I would have liked to have clarification on was Agnes’ life. As she is writing her letters not much detail is given about her childhood. I felt touched by her character though and was happy to see the conclusion we received. I would have liked a tad more information on why Ron and Caroline didn’t get along. Again, not essential to the plot and my opinion is that Ron probably is responding to the relationship between Caroline and his wife/her sister, Madeline.

I know some people have compared this to The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold which I loved! I just do not think this has the plot strength to hold up to that comparison.
It was an enjoyable read and I will pick up another book by this author. I believe this is her second novel and I am curious to see if her novels encompass more detail in the future. In the reader’s guide at the end of the book, she indicates she gets requests to find out what happened to the other characters. So, I am comforted to know that other readers had the similar questions.

I have signed up for the author's email list and added her other books to my wishlist.

Just arrived today in the mail. I am in the middle of another book, but will start on it soon.

Journal Entry 11 by ladilee24 from Newark, Delaware USA on Monday, April 19, 2010
I quite liked this book, and was surprised how fast I read it. I started over the weekend, and ended up caught up this evening and unable to put it down until the end. Caroline isn't a very sympathetic character, at first, but the fractured nature of her life makes sense as you learn more of her past, and by the end I was really cheering for the healing of this family, however tentative.

Thanks for including me in the ring! Off to the next reader in tomorrow's mail.

Arrived safely today! Thanks for allowin me to participate, I have another book ahead of this one but should be able to start it by the end of the week.

Journal Entry 14 by oi-reader from Toledo, Ohio USA on Saturday, May 1, 2010
Many thanks to 300dogs for organizing this and allowing me to participate.

It has been a very long time since I read something I could not put down. Perhaps I've been in a reading funk for the past year or so, but this book brought me out of it! How To Be Lost kept me up way past my bedtime 2 nights in a row.

The writing is good, the characters were interesting, and although I figured the plot out about 1/3 into the tale I had to read through to the end to make sure I was right. I admit, I would have liked a bit more of an ending, or perhaps a sequel as I had unanswered questions at the end. After reading the interview with the author following the novel though I see I was not the only one who wanted more.

I have minesayn's address and will be sending it her way in the coming week.

Ehh... thought the book was okay. Like others, I would have liked a little bit more at the end. Left me hanging and felt since I'd read that far into the story I should have something else to hold on to in the end. I did like the twist of the story.

On to the next reader.

Journal Entry 23 by dabercro at Clinton, Utah USA on Sunday, September 5, 2010
I enjoyed this book and as previous readers stated it was hard to put down. It made me think of the real-life stories of children that disappear and are often never found. How long do you keep looking and hoping? What does that disappearance do to the family left behind, especially the siblings?

I, like previous readers, would have liked more closure at the end and maybe would like to see a sequel to this book. There still is a lot of story waiting to be told.

Thanks, 300dogs, for sharing.

The book landed in my mailbox the day before I was leaving on vacation. Perfect timing! I took it with me to Nashville and read it over the last 5 days.
The book totally had me hooked in the first few pages. I found it hard to put down once the story started to develop! But, alas, it did leave me wanting more at the end. Still, I DID enjoy it. It would be great of it had a sequel!
I will contact the next person on the list and get it out in the mail in the next few days.

Journal Entry 29 by StinaRy at Bloomfield, New Jersey USA on Wednesday, January 26, 2011
Usually when I say I couldn't put a book down its a bit of an exaggeration. But not this time -- I seriously could not put it down and stayed up well into the night to finish it because I just had to know how it ended. The only reason it didn't get a 10 is because I didn't actually care for the end...I really wanted the story to continue. Maybe she'll write another one that tells us what happened next...

I'm the last reader for this ray...with the permission of our host, however, I hope to keep it going. :)

This story was a little confusing at times with random characters thrown in without any explanation and I was left wondering what I was reading. As I got more into the story it did keep my interest and had to finish it to find out about who did in fact take Ellie but left so many unanswered questions that I hated the way it left you hanging. I would read a sequel if one were written. Thanks esq228 for including me in this ray. I have PM the next person for their address

Journal Entry 39 by wingjudygreeneyeswing at San Diego, California USA on Monday, August 15, 2011
I read this book very quickly! It was a pretty engrossing story, sad but a little hopeful in that I hoped they would eventually find the missing sister. Not so much character development, but in less than 300 pgs it was a well-told story about a dysfunctional family, about choices (good and bad), and about how lost a person can get for a variety of reasons. I'm glad I read it and have added the authors first book to my TBR list.

Journal Entry 40 by wingDove-i-Libriwing at Fort Myers, Florida USA on Tuesday, August 16, 2011
Received this well-read and well-travelled book from JudyGreenEyes when we met up (IN PERSON!!!!!!) today. What a wonderful day. Two new books and a new friend! What a lovely visit, I only wish it could have been longer. I felt so comfortable with her that I could have talked forever ... (Oh, and I have the author's first book sitting here on my TBR shelf!)
