His 'N' Hers (unabridged CDs)

Unabridged on 8 CD-Rs (each disk is a single track). Hodder & Stoughton, 2004. Narrated by Dave John. Approximately 9.3 hours. Listen to an excerpt at webwords.org.
Jim and Alison are divorced and with new partners. He's just asked his girlfriend to move in & she's engaged to a man called Marcus. The story of their relationship (from the freshers dance in Birmingham in 1994 to ten years later in London) is told in flashback with alternating diary-like first person narratives. I really would've preferred his 'n' her readers. (The book uses two different fonts to signify the transitions.) PS. Even though the cover blurb mentions couples counseling, they never actually went.
From the publisher
Jim and Alison have been together on-and-off for a decade. Having successfully navigated their relationship through student gigs to candle-lit dinner parties, they have finally split up. And divided their 22 shared items (including a double-bed, a microwave, a ring, a toaster, an Oasis album, a car and a 5ft tall rubber plant) into his 'n' hers. Now with the help of a relationship counsellor, they embark on a journey through the past to the present leading them to the biggest decision of their adult lives.
Previously an Agony Uncle, Mike Gayle is a freelance journalist and the acclaimed author of My Legendary Girlfriend, Mr Commitment, Turning Thirty and Dinner for Two.
