Mama Makes Up Her Mind and Other Dangers of Southern Living

One of my aunts introduced me to the stories of Bailey White a couple years ago. White's stories about her family are wonderful, often humorous, and always charming and heartfelt. This is a really nice paperback I got at a library book sale.

very hilarious! I particularly liked: dead on the road, Maine, fireman for life and finding myself. The book is on its way to Hong Kong.
Received, read, and ready to mail on to the next person. I enjoyed the little vignettes on Southern life and witiscisms. Having lived in the South for much of my life, I can relate to some of her experiences and imagine the rest. Wonderfully warm book!
Thanks Llednyl for sharing with all of us and to Nagwan for sending it to me (along with some beautiful postcards!)

Arrived in the post today - thank you Wandering B for posting it to me. And thanks to Llednyl for setting up this bookring! Itll be my second Bailey White book.
Got this today, started reading it and couldn´t really stop - so I´ve already finished it. I have already pmed for the next address, so I´m just waiting for that now.
I´d previously read her fiction book Quite a Year for Plums, which I enjoyed, but I think I prefer this one. The people in her life are just wonderful, and I thought her mother was brilliant - the kind of person I´d love to know or even become when I get older - ha ha! There are just so many observations, comments and little anecdotes in this that were so great. I loved that one about her mother going to see the doctors at the shopping centre and getting great advice from those "surgeons" stood outside. Oh, and Bailey´s fear of spiders and having to go under the house to sort out the telephone wiring. I could sympathise with that.... I just need to copy some bits out of the book for my own memories if nothing else! -
"But I managed it and crawled out, batting spiders into the shadows. I could hear a sound, then, worst of all, the silence of spiders."
Oh, I know that too well!
One more bit...
" "You read about people cleaning out their attics and finding 200 year old quilts in perfect condition, old coins, cute kitchen appliences from the turn of the century...What kind of family are we?..."
"Well," said Mama, "you found your brother´s snakeskins. And I think this rat skeleton is fascinating."

Have got the address now so will hopefully post tomorrow. It will have to go surface mail though, as I have suddenly had to post a lot of books and am feeling quite broke. But as I read the book on the day I got it, hopefully it should arrive within the month!

Finished this book and it will soon be on it's way to the next person on the list. Thanks for including me.
I received the book in today's mail and have already begun reading it. So far it's great fun! I'll contact spaceystacey for her address, since this looks to be a quick read.

Received this book in the post today in a bag from the post office indicating that it has been damaged in the post. The book items seems to be fine, other than a few bent corner pages and some stray packaging glue on the tip of the back cover. I will be reading this one over the Thanksgiving holidays and sending out to the originator of the ring.
I have never read or heard of this author before. The book was a very easy read and some of the episodes were hilarious.
Posting back to the originator of the ring on 12/08/08. Thank you for sharing this read with bookcrossing.
