Went to the Art Museum today -- to see a Frida Kahlo exhibit (fabulous!!)-- and found this lovely clouring book in the store. Couldn't resist buying it to do a coloring ring :)

Developed during the Edo period of Japanese History (1615-1868), Ukiyo-e art incorpoated themes from the country's classical, literary, and histoical sources. The favorite subjects of its artists were beautiful women--both real and idealized.

Ming-Ju Sun's 30 exquisite ready-to-color- illustrations, adapted from authentic Japanese woodblock prints, feature those lovely ladies--wearing elegant kimonos--in a variety of poses: reading, playing musical instruments,boating, dancing, strolling, among others.

Took a while to decide which one to colour in. My daughter helped me to decide and I did it all in one sitting. I haven't done any colouring for years and enjoyed it. I will look out for adult friendly colouring books in my travels.
There were only 2 people in front of me so lots of choice of pictures but it'll be a shame not to see the finished article.

ohhh, what a nice surprise! I had completely forgotten it was a coloring bookring! It arrived precisely the moment I had decided to start painting again and bought paintbrushes and watercolors and all that. So I was really happy to color one of the beautiful pictures. I apologize for the somewhat sloppy technique, I am still practicing, it's been over a decade that I've last used a paintbrush...

I really love the images. I studied in Japan and this brought back many positive memories.

Doing a coloring bookring is an absolutely brilliant idea! I hope others follow!

I just got back from a two-week holiday and found this lovely coloring book in my mailbox, yippie! Thanks for passing it on eatsletters (by the way, I love what you did with the watercolors!).

Wow, this took only 4 days, all the way from France!! Amazing!

These pictures are lovely. I will make my decision tomorrow, and hopefully, colour and have it on its way by next week.

It's here! Jessibud and I were beginning to worry, but I found it on my hutch today while doing a little tidying. Yippee! I have enjoyed looking at all your colouring thus far and hope to add mine to the mix as soon as possible given the time lost travelling--or sitting on my hutch, if my rotten husband forgot to tell me when it actually arrived :)

Sorry it has taken me so long to get this done. We are currently having a family health emergency that is draining my energy. My daughter was in town to visit and we did it together. She chose the picture of the Temple of Asakusa because she had been to Japan recently. It was actually therapeutic to do the coloring.

Hint: If you only hve a limited set of colors like we did, plan all your colors out ahead of time.

I will PM the next person in the ring and get the book sent on its way.

oh~~ can't believe its been weeks since this arrived back home! I looked at the lovely pics you've all done, then laid it down in the office to journal....and it was quickly covered and "out of sight, out of mind." I'm working lonnnnnnnnnng hours 7 days a week at the moment, so it will be awhile, but I do want to get all the pictures scanned and sent out to you to add to the journals.
