I bought this second hand from the shop around the corner.
Ten people are invited for a weekend on Indian Island off the coast of Devon by a Mr U.N. Owen, but he isn't on the island. At dinner a record is played, by that all the people are accused of murder, suddenly the first of them is dead, then the next... all in the way discribed in a nursery rhyme. It seems to be that one of the guests is the murderer.
I found this crime novel suprisingly grim and depressing and cynic. I saw the film version (1945) of this story and it was very much lighter than the novel. There were two people left in that version, the young and handsome of course.
