This has been one of my all-time favorites for years. I came across "The Bunyans" when I was looking for good books about Utah. There are some pages in the story with definite Utah ties. I added the book to my own collection, and sent another to the pen pal class my second graders were writing to. I was pleased to be able to give a copy to Paul's Pass-Along Books, too. Clare Ostler

Journal Entry 7 by AnonymousFinder on Saturday, June 03, 2006
Dear T., The book arrived on Tuesday, May 30, from Clare. We read it in class on Friday, June 2, and the children really enjoyed it. Despite my explanation, they thought you wrote the book, so when you read the letters I sent you via Clare, you'll notice that they're asking you about what happened to the characters next! The cub scouts in my class were amazed that Paul had been an Eagle scout at 15 and were very impressed. I am deeply moved by your commitment to turn your personal sorrow into a joyful memorial for your dear son, and in so doing spread immeasurable good into the world. You are a true blessing! I have been fortunate enough to have visited eleven of the places mentioned in the story! I still need to see those Great Sand Dunes in Colorado and visit England. Mars...well, who knows? We have had the pleasure of enjoying this book during summer vacation. Who knew Paul Bunyan had a family?? We love Teeny and Little Jean! Thanks to Clare for sharing this wonderfully funny story. Our family enjoyed reading this book when our boys were younger...and we still chuckle every time we read it! Paul's favorite pages was always those funny bears with honey in Teeny's hair! We will be passing The Bunyan's back to Clare so she can continue sharing the book with other classes across America. Thank you, dear teachers, for sharing this great and imaginative story with your classes...and thank you, Clare, for a wonderful addition to Paul's Pass-Along Books. Teresa Ostler

I am going to send this in to the first grade class tomorrow in Mason, OH. I am sure they will enjoy it. I plan on reading it to my kids tonight. Maybe the teacher will make a journal entry to tell what the kids think of the book. If not, I will make a new journal entry on their behalf after hearing back from them. I am sure they will enjoy it. I will send it along to the next classroom via the mail when it is returned to me.

This book arrived in Nebraska about 2 weeks ago. I gave it to my daughter's kindergarten teacher who read it to her class on Friday last week. There are 23 students in her class, and they really enjoyed the story. My daughter and I read the book again this afternoon so now I can put it together and return it to Utah to prepare for the next leg of it's journey. This book will be as well-traveled as Paul Bunyan and his family were! Thank you for sharing it with us!

It's a new school year for Oakcrest Eagles, and Mrs. Ostler welcomed twenty-six enthusiastic children to her class two days ago. Together they learned about this special Paul's Pass-Along Book and the goal that has been set to share it with students in all fifty states. Nine states have participated so far. We hope it does a lot of traveling during the 2007-2008 school year. It's going to be mailed to a school in Massachusetts this week.

My 18 second graders loved the story. Since we live close to Niagara Falls, they all were able to connect with this part of the book. They are now curious about the other locations referred to in the book! Our school custodian, Wayne Dunn, introduced us to Pass-Along books. His daughter, Mary, passed away this autumn. My students are very excited and pleased to be part of such a loving and inspiring movement. Thank you for opening my classroom to the Bunyans and Pass-Along books.
