With all the praise I have heard and at 50% off I couldn't refuse buying it.

I found it somewhat naive. It's a nice story nevertheless.

Journal Entry 2 by ajdica on Tuesday, June 27, 2006
Sent to kmq for winning my guessing game (in celebration of the 15th anniversary of Slovenia's independence).

Enjoy!

Journal Entry 6 by wingkihaanwing from Laihia, Pohjanmaa / Österbotten Finland on Tuesday, September 26, 2006
I found the book in my mail-box this afternoon, Vielen Dank, kmq! :o) It looks like an interesting book but first it has to go to the growing pile of TBRs...

Journal Entry 7 by wingkihaanwing from Laihia, Pohjanmaa / Österbotten Finland on Sunday, April 8, 2007
I recently saw the movie based on this book on tv (Jon Voight as Eddie) and liked it so much that decided to dig the book from my TBR pile and read it right away. I love the story that is on one hand very sad but on the other hand something that really gives one hope. Somehow it's a comforting thought that in the end all this is going to make sense...

Thank you for giving me a chance to read the book! :o)

The book arrived in the mail while I was on a May Day holiday in Helsinki. Thanks kihaan, I'll try and read it soon!

Update on June 8: I haven't had time to read it yet, but at tonight's local BC meeting, Lalaneela took it to read while I sort out my previous reading engagements. She'll return it to me when she's done.

Journal Entry 9 by Lalaneela from Joensuu, Pohjois-Karjala / Norra Karelen Finland on Wednesday, July 4, 2007
I liked the story though it was quite unsurprising. To write about heaven takes a lot of courage because everyone imagines it differently. This was one story about heaven. I like to read about how everything has a meaning in life and even upsetting things can appear to be good after all. I will give this book back to Niora now.

Journal Entry 10 by wingNiorawing from Kuopio, Pohjois-Savo / Norra Savolax Finland on Wednesday, September 12, 2007
The book is back in my hands after a lunch meeting with Lalaneela. (Thanks for the chocolates - you shouldn't have really!) I'll try and finally get it read sooner or later...

Journal Entry 11 by wingNiorawing from Kuopio, Pohjois-Savo / Norra Savolax Finland on Wednesday, September 19, 2007
I've read it already. I found the book actually less simplistic than I was expecting and a nice read, but it felt a bit slight in the end. It's largely compatible with my world-view and philosophy of life, although one point of view that seemed to be missing was that what you do in life - both good and bad - doesn't only affect the other people and sometimes doesn't really affect them at all, but it always affects yourself.

One bit that made me think was when the estate attorney came to look at Eddie's apartment after his death and shook his head looking at Eddie's papers and the balance of his last bank statement, congratulating himself for having money and all sorts of property and not being as poor as old Eddie. Whatever was he congratulating himself for? It's not like you can take anything with you when you die, you know.

I'm now looking into sending this book somewhere abroad, since plenty of BCers around the world have it on their wish lists, and many seem to have been looking for it for years already.

Update (October 22): I've announced this as an international bookray on the Bookrings etc. forum. One month maximum of reading time per participant, and then please pass the book on briskly; economy mail is OK. These BCers have signed up:

1. Liinuskainen, Finland (shipping preference: anywhere)
2. notnot, Norway (shipping preference: anywhere)
3. Haugtussa, Norway (shipping preference: anywhere)
4. hshah, UK (shipping preference: within UK)
5. mysteriousmummy, UK (shipping preference: anywhere)
6. franaloe, the Netherlands (shipping preference: anywhere)
7. Brujula, France (shipping preference: anywhere)
8. quino-salonika, Greece (shipping preference: anywhere)
9. Stellarv, Brazil - canceled participation
10. angela861, USA - got the book from elsewhere

In order to avoid the participants having to wait forever for the book, I have now closed the ray.

Update (October 30): Liinuskainen got the book from me tonight at the local BC meeting. Happy travels and happy reading, everybody!

Update (December 21, 2008): as agreed by PM with quino-salonika earlier, since there are no more participants in the ray, the ray has ended and the book will continue its travels in other ways.

I read this book last Saturday (2.11.) which happened to be All Saints' Day. So the topic fit very well for that day. And I think the general atmosphere of the day affected to my reading. I had just visited the cemetery where I had lighted some candles. The book was a bit naïve, but still it was quite nice and comforting. I liked the way this story was told, each people bring a new piece of Eddies past and little by little the reader knows more of his life. In a way I’m clad that I got this book just before All Saints' Day.

This book will go notnot as soon as I get the address.

This was a good book to relax with. Alboms visions of Heaven are interesting, and of course they are different than visions of other people, but I think he has written a good story of how it may be.
I like the author's style, and even though I liked Tuesdays with Morrie even better, I still think this one was definitely worth the time I spent with it.

Thanks for sharing the book with me, and I'll send it off to Haugtussa tomorrow.

I've just recently discovered the wisdom and philosophy of Mitch Albom - thanks to bookcrossing. I like his easy writing style, and the childlike explantaions of difficult things in life. That you meet five people in heaven that can explain parts of your life to you, interesting thought - and I do like it! I wonder who my five people would be???

I'll get the book posted as soon as I have hshah's address.

Journal Entry 18 by hshah from Mumbai, Maharashtra India on Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Received this. Thanks.

Mitch Albom puts together an interesting narration for what he percieves as heaven. When you think about the story it keeps you spell bound till the very end.

Its going to mysteriousmummy, as soon as I hear from her.

Received safely today from hshah, will probably take to work and read tomorrow, depending how quiet it is looks interesting (& short!)

Glad I didn't get round to taking this to work I found it a real uplifting and tear jearking book, I am actually going to buy myself a copy for my permanent collection and to lend out to my friends.

I really enjoyed it an absolutely fabulous book, I read it in one sitting, helped by the fact it is relatively short, I cannot recommend it high enough.

Will be winging its way to franaloe as soon as I receive the address.

I got this book along with a stack of others from efou and quino-salonika when I met up with them for a cup of hot chocolate last night. It was great to meet you guys - thanks for all the books! I will read this, and pass it on (will have to find somewhere exotic for it to travel, since it's been to so many places already ;-) - I don't know when, but sooner or later. :-)

Thanks again, it was great to meet you! :-)

Journal Entry 30 by wingLeishaCamdenwing at -- wild release somewhere in Oslo, Oslo fylke Norway on Sunday, August 29, 2010
Finally got around to reading this book now ... !! Better late than never. :-) It was a pretty good read, not one I would have chosen for myself, but worth reading anyway. ;-) I'm not a spiritual person and I don't buy any of this life after death malarkey ... so I basically don't buy this story, by default, and I have to say that it does all seem rather glib and convenient. But it's well written and moving in parts. The last of the five people especially was rather touching. A quick read, 196 pages.

Now this book will be going off on new adventures in the far north. :-)
