I don't think I understood entirely what was going on, but maybe that was the point - I'm not sure. Still, I liked it: it was interesting and - especially in the second half - full of suspense.

For quite some time I've been wondering about Isaiah's age. Finally I've come to the conclusion (kindergarten, nappies) that he must be about 4. (I've skipped a few passages, so maybe there's some definite answer in the book somewhere and I just didn't see it.) In any case I'm wondering why he went along with his father on that expedition when he was only about 3 then.
I really liked "the mechanic" as a character, bear-like dyslexic stutterer - what's not to like? ;) At first I had trouble warming up (hehe) to Smilla, but she's a great character. I didn't understand all of her actions - I have little use for powergaming myself, but it certainly came in useful here. Very thrilling!

Goes back into Quantaqa's English Bookbox.
