Journal Entry 1 by AnnevO from Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, April 29, 2006
Norma Restarick, a Third Girl ( i.e., sharing the flat with two others ), is not remarkable in anyway and yet she rivets Poirot's attention when she goes to him with a 'murder she might have committed'. Not stopping there, she wounds Poirot's pride by exclaiming that he's too old, forcing Poirot to embark upon a case when he's not sure that there indeed is a case. Assisting Poirot is the lady detective-story writer, Ariadne Oliver, that very endearing self-caricature of Christie. She attempts to find out more and ends up getting herself knocked on the head when she's tailing a beatnik who apparently is a friend of Norma. Matters comes to a head when the same, rather dressy, young man, is found killed in Norma's flat, with her holding the bloody knife. It's now up to Poirot to explain the mystery.
