A slender volume of folktales from Borneo, Malaysia. Published by Natural History Publications (Borneo)
I'm thinking that this would be great for the Olympic Challenge or the 5/5/5/ Challenge! What about you?

Headed to Hobbit this week to start a bookring. (May 15, 2006)

I enjoyed these folk stories. It's somewhat unusual to find a volume of folk tales that's actually compiled by the people that tell those stories. Very often, they're done by an anthropologist or writer from somewhere else. I thought there was an interesting feel to these, as though they're not trying to conform to someone else's need to wrap things up or conform to some sense of what's a "proper story". They're just little tales that people might exchange about their world, or tell their kids in passing.

Thanks again for sharing this book. I put it into the mail this morning for the next one in the ring.

I like those tales a lot! They are beautiful ways to explain things in life.
My favourite tale is “Why the mosquito makes a buzzing sound in our ears”; I guess I will think of that tale when I have mosquitoes around me this summer.
I and very glad to have been able to read this thanks’ to you bybee!

Sent to Sheepseeker the 1st of June.

I agree with Alvhyttan: "Why the mosquito makes a buzzing sound in our ears" is also my favourite of these tales.
It's been a while since I last read folklore/fairy tales - and I enjoyed it! One of the stories ('The Owl and the Moon') I even knew. A native guide told it on our last trip to Malaysia. It was a little different but still the same context.

Thanks a lot for sharing this little volume, bybee! I'll send it off to katyan tomorrow...
