Fast paced, gritty tale set on the mean streets of East 17. The main character is a bit of a dodgy geezer, but he's likeable enough. Sure, he nicks cars and whatever else takes his fancy, but only because he has to.
Part of the book's appeal was that it mentions pubs I've been to and places I know. Fortunately, in my experience, Walthamstow is nothing like as crime ridden as this book suggests. It's fiction though, so enjoy it as just that.
