It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.Case Histories : A Novel

Sigh. Sorry it has taken me this long to get to this book. I should have remembered why I wanted to stop picking up hard-cover books: too big and bulky to tote around in my bag every day!
I started off enjoying the writing style of Kate Atkinson in *Case Histories* but, 3/4 of the way through, it began dragging for me. Her excessive use of parentheses started to get on my nerves; at first, it was cute, quirky, all that tangential background and inner thought. I don't think there was a paragraph that didn't contain at least a few parenthetical asides! But the novelty had long since worn off, for me. I kept wishing she'd just get on with revealing how all the cases connect.
This story was not a bad premise, overall, but maybe all the positive hype I'd heard about Atkinson as a writer served only to set my expectations a bit too high. Unfortunately, I can't say this was a memorable read for me. I am not a great fan of the mystery genre, so maybe that also had something to do with it.
Anyhow, I will bring this to our next meetup in the new year; I know a few of the group do like mysteries.
I meant to add that just this past weekend, I saw a new book out by Kate Atkinson (sorry, can't think of the title), in which the characters of Jackson Brodie and Julia Land, from this novel, are now living together and continue their adventures!
Brought this to our meetup today at The Yellow Griffin. A couple of the group had already read it but I think it did go home with someone!
I've already read this, but said I'd bring it home from the meetup. I quite liked it and will probably release it somewhere shortly for someone else to enjoy.

I was actually pretty surprised when I read this. This type of book is completely new to me and I have to say that I enjoyed it! It was funny at times, but serious at others. I liked the characters and how the story is told from many different perspectives. I also liked that the ending of the book isnt completely obvious. I am glad that I read this book and hopefully the next person who gets it will like it too :)
Leaving this on a table at escape from new york pizza on haight street. happy reading!

Caught it yesterday @ Escape from New York Pizza on Haight Street in San Francisco! I love this bookcrossing! I was going to return the book to the counter in case the owner came back when I read the label! Just read the first 3 pages. Looks promising :-)
