The Mysterious Mr. Quin

I've enjoyed Agatha Christie's "Harley Quin" stories many times - and have released several copies of the collection as well, as these stories deserve to be better known than they seem to be! When I found that there was an audio version available I snapped it up, and can now listen to the stories as well as read them... Hugh Fraser (the actor who portrayed Hastings in the PBS versions of the Hercule Poirot mysteries) does a fine job with the readings. [Update: I got an MP3 copy of this book via Audible.com, so the cassettes are free to go traveling.]
This audiobook includes all twelve of the stories that appear in the text version, each one a tale of love and death - though the dead, and the lovers, are not always the characters one thinks they are - and each featuring the "looker-on of life," Mr. Satterthwaite, as he tries to unravel things before the inevitable appearance of the enigmatic Mr. Quin. The mood of the Quin stories is more of romance-noir than traditional mystery, and by the end of the stories Quin's nature - always mysterious - seems to build to something glorious and frightening. I adore this collection...

I'm adding this book to a small box of books that I'm sending to ResQGeek in Virginia, for release at an OBCZ or elsewhere. Hope someone enjoys it!
Arrived in the mail yesterday, tucked into the package with a couple of copies of GoryDetails' father's book that are destined for local OBCZs. I'm not sure where I'll release this set, but I'm sure I'll come up with something! :o)
I'm taking this to the February BC-in-DC get together, to see if I can find it a new home.
Got this from ResQgeek. I'll probably include it in my next audio bookbox or RABCK box.
Releasing this in an Audio Bookbox. Enjoy!

This was a very satisfying collection, and by the way, three cheers for publishers who provide us unabridged books!
I don't know if these stories were originally published separately, but when you go through the whole batch at once, you certainly see the evolution of Mr. Quin, from the armchair sleuth in the typical country house party mystery, to... what? Something glorious and frightening, as Gory says.
I also agree that Hugh Fraser is perfect for this book. Personally, I've got such a weakness for his British accent that I practically slid out of my chair with delight when he pronounced "figure" as "figgah." And didn't he do a nice number on an American accent in "The Soul of the Croupier?"
But that's just one person's opinion. Future listeners, what do YOU think of this book?

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Mailed to that most excellent BookCrosser, Imawinn2, for iwillrejoice's audiobook VBB
Oh goodness, JudySlump612... you make me blush! But I'm glad you think so kindly of me. I am really looking forward to this set of Agatha Christie stories. I have always been very partial to Miss Marple but have never read any mysteries starring Harley Quin. Should give me a few hours of entertainment, for sure. Thanks for sharing!!
Sending this off in my 'Cassettes Are Still Alive' bookbox. First Stop: LittleWhiteBird
I have been an Agatha Christie fan since I was a young girl. I started by watching Christie mysteries late at night. My favorite was Miss Marple played by Dame Margaret Rutherford. Anyway, this is a collection of 12 mysteries starring the sleuth Mr. Harley Quin. It is the first time I have ever immersed myself in the world of Mr. Quinn. It proved to be a good bit of fun for a mystery reader like me. Hope someone else will enjoy these tales.

Taking this out of the box.
I love Agatha Christie novels, but don't know Mr. Quin yet.

This is definitely an interesting set of mysteries. I have recently read a few books where people committed suicides, so it was refreshing that those seem to have been prevented in a couple of these stories. I'm not sure whether I like Mr. Quin as much as other Agatha Christie characters, but he and Mr. Satterthwaite grapped my attention for sure.
Hugh Fraser was an excellent reader, I agree with the others.

I love the stained glass behind the shadowy figure on the cover: I haven't encountered Mr. Quin before so maybe I'll give this a try.
Unabridged on 6 cassettes; read by Hugh Fraser.
