However, stylistically, I found it a bit difficult to follow at times. Although it is in the form of entries marked by times of day, purportedly following a woman through one 12-hour period from her early morning awakening until the candles are lit at sunset, it includes her musings about the future and the past without clarity or clear transition. And it also includes chapters written from other people's viewpoints with no introduction or time anchor. I don't know if it's a problem with the translation or just the style, but I felt like I was floundering to put some of the pieces into context. I'm glad that I read it, and I'll be counting it as my pick for El Salvador in the Olympic Challenge - reading works by authors from every country that participates in the Olympics. |
