I really liked Dark Tort up until the last chapter. At that point, it seemed to suffer from what I call the slam-bang-boom effect, where everything is swiftly wrapped up. Writers are always told to “show, don’t tell.” Describe what is going on for the reader instead of telling them. And Davidson does an excellent job of this right up until Chapter 19, when it seems like the reader is suddenly thrust through a rapid denouement. But aside from this major peeve, I really liked the book. I haven’t tried the recipes in the back, but they do look interesting.

This book is an ARE. The only editing error I noticed (I wasn’t looking) is in the last paragraph on page 18, where “be at” has been typeset as “beat.”

Bookring Bookray

Thanks for participating in this bookring. I hope that you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Note: After some thought, I've decided that I don't need this one back for my PC. So now it's a bookray (I hope no one minds).

1. Journal when you receive the book.
2. When you are close to finishing the book, PM the next person in line to get their address.
3. Journal when the book leaves and is traveling on to the next reader.
4. Last person in the ring must ship the book back to me.
4. Last person in the ray is free to do whatever they wish with the book.

I put this in the (insured media) mail today for loneflower. I apologize for the length of time it has taken me to get this ring started...what can I say, life got in the way. It's packaged amongst a bunch of grocery bags, as I had a box that was almost but not quite the right size, and needed some padding.

I just have to say perfect timing on this bookring. I finished the Davinci Code last night and needed to start something new today and what arrives in my mail box, DARK TORT! I'll journal again in a couple days when I'm done. Thanks for sending this one.

Finished the book last night, I enjoyed it quite a bit, even though I don't think Diane Mott Davidson books are quite as good as they used to be, I still like Goldie's character. I thought the book bogged down a little in the middle, but other than that, the mystery element was pretty good.

Thanks again for sending it. I'll edit this journal again to include the delivery confirmation number of the book when I mail it to the next person.

I received this today. I have one bookring ahead of it that I am almost finished with. I'll start this after I finish that one. I can't wait! Thank-you so much for including me!

This was good. I always like the books in this series. They make me so hungry though! The constant mentioning of food makes me want to eat.
I did think it was a little rushed at the end. I'm never ready for these books to end though. The characters are so real to me they're like old friends.
I have an address for the next in line. I'll leave a note here when I get this sent. Thanks again for letting me read this.

This book is on it's way to bookreadera.

I always enjoy books by DMD. I figured out the "who" early on, but the "why" pretty much threw me, wayyyy to complex. As usual, I photocopied a number of the recipes. Already bought groceries to make the prosciutto bites : )

Thanks for adding me to ring.

posted out to aylaeh yesterday.
