Thank you for offering this, AM! Admittedly, it's not my typical read, but something about the description during the swap prompted me to steal it, LOL! I'm looking forward to giving it a try...who knows? maybe I'm on to a whole new genre (just what I need..ack!) ETA: Desperately need room on my shelves, so I've decided to make this AVL for Teen VBB/relay/trade etc.

RES teen VBB round 8 Book Description: After their mother dies, her father packs up Deirdre and her brother and moves them from New York City to Charmette, a bayou town in Louisiana. At home, Deirdre is one of three strangers trying to recreate a family. At Charmette High, she's a Yankee who'll never fit in. She's alone in a way she'd never known before. . . until she meets Johnny. He's so mysterious and so beautiful. People say he's dangerous, and that he's got special powers. All Deirdre knows is that when she and Johnny look at each other, they're so close, they're like one person. Johnny makes her feel like her true self. And he teaches Deirdre what true love is, and how long it can last.

Journal Entry 8 by morsecode from Buffalo, New York USA on Friday, June 29, 2007
I had a long day at work yesterday and when I got home I felt that a YA novel was in order. This book hadn't made it to the TBR book case yet so I decided to pick it up. I'm really not sure what to say about the book. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, I just don't think I "got" it. Deirdre, Johnny, Kenny, and even Curtis to some extent are interesting characters and Deirdre is particularly sympathetic. I think I liked the book up until the party, but then it really fell off for me. Maybe Johnny just ended up being a bit too enigmatic for me. The book does seem to be a hit with its target audience though: most of the reviews on amazon seem to be written by high school girls and the book has a 5 star rating. I'll be passing this book on to my coworker (who also enjoys YA fiction) next week. I'm interested to see what she thinks of it.
