Book Description: Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter is the first in a dazzling new series for animal lovers. Dixie Hemingway (no relation to you-know-who) is a professional pet-sitter in Sarasota, Florida. When Dixie goes to feed the cat of a vacationing client and discovers the animal hiding from a very dead intruder, she is led to investigate the whereabouts of her now suspicious-looking client, who has vanished. With a bright future ahead, Clement is a welcome addition to Minotaur's lineup of cozy authors. I discovered this book through Suzanne Beecher's Read it First Program. Suzanne was promoting the book. She had sample pages for us to read and 25 copies to give away. Here's part of the email I sent her to enter the contest:
I loved reading those pages from 'Curiosity killed the cat sitter' all at once. I'm a cat lover (I have two Siamese snowshoe kitties that are about 1.5 years old) so once I started reading I knew I couldn't fail to like this book, but this is the part that really sold me: Cats, on the other hand, try to give you the impression they didn't even know you were gone. "Oh, were you out?" they'll say, "I didn't notice." Then they'll raise their tails to show you their little puckered anuses and walk away. Something about "little puckered anuses" just rang so true to me. Anyway, now that I've read the first 20 pages, I'm intrigued. I really want to learn the protagonist's back-story. I want to know what happened to make Dixie leave her position at the sheriff's office. Of course, I didn't win one of the copies. However, especially seeing the 5-star reviews on amazon, I was so intrigued by the book that I decided to buy it for myself as a half birthday present. ~ ~ ~ I don't read alot of mysteries, but I must say that I really enjoyed this one. I read it from start to finish the day it arrived! The protagonist Dixie is multifacted and interesting. The other characters, both human and animal, are well-conceived. And, Clement adds alot of things that make this book more substantive than your run of the mill cozy. I'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series.

I was having a miserable day until my husband brought in the mail. I love how bookcrossing can cheer you up! Thanks morsecode. Right now, I am three chapters away from finishing my current book. I should start on this book later tonight. Currently I am re-reading “Marley & Me” as ellymae58 will be hearing him read at Wordstock. It is fitting that my next book keeps the pet theme going. Thanks for organizing this ring.

What a wonderful new book series! All of the characters were so well written and believable. Dixie is a complicated woman who has found healing I believe in her new job of pet sitting. I have a friend who is a professional pet sitter and Ms. Clement did an excellent job of portraying the job. I look forward to the next book. I can’t wait to see what Dixie is up to next as there are some different paths she can take now. Thanks for sharing this book morsecode! Mailed out 04/25/06

I finished this one today and have to say I was surprised. I'm not ususually a cozy reader (I prefer the sick shit) But I liked this one. I'll definitely be on the lookout for the sequel. I loved Dixie and the rest of the cast of characters. The animals seemed real to me and Michael and Paco are wonderful family. I can't wait to see what happens with Guidry and hope subsequent books involve the rest of the characters fully. Thanks for allowing me to read this one, but damned if I needed another series to become addicted to! Will pm LadyJanet for her address and get in the mail early next week.

Finished! This was one of those "can't put it down" books. The characters were lively even if the plot was just a little predictable. I can always spot a mistake and this book had two. So-ok I'm being picky- but in one part she starts out walking a dog to the "murder" house then "parks" behind a patrol car then walks the dog home.... HUH? And if you were hiding out from a murderer, in the "murder house" no less, and someone had just been beaten right outside a couple nights before, would you leave the house UNLOCKED so that the murderer could just walk in in the middle of the night? Other than the fact that I'm picky with this stuff, it was a great book! I'll PM Giz-Angel to send it on its way. Thanks Morsie for the ring! I great new author to add to my list.

Damn you Morsie! Another series I'm going to have to read LOL! I really enjoyed this - not too cozy just the right amount of action and a GREAT cat :-) I'll mail this off to Antheras at the weekend. I'm going to send it surface cos I'm poor and Anth has a few rings to get through - hope that's OK. And truly, thank you Morsie for sharing xxxx
