Quick read. I have enjoyed Ann Patchett's fiction immensely and picked up this foray into nonfiction memoir about a friendship over many years. I tended to share her frustration about her friend's self destructiveness and found the whole thing completely grim. Could be the timing of when I read it, but it's overwhelmingly bleak though well written.
