A wonderful retelling of a classic fairy-tale. shhh...not going to give away which one. As I was reading, one BXer came to mind. This will be a surprise RABCK for Alescrate.

Hope she likes it as much as I did.

Eireannaigh gave me this at the 1st AMCO. (I can't help but grin because she brought the book special *just* for me!) It sounds very interesting...I can't wait to read it and figure out which fairy-tale it's based on. I'm putting it near the top of Mount Toberead. Thanks for bringing it for me...I plan on giving it to my mom as soon as I'm finished with it.

For some reason this plucked at my mind last night when I read it:

"I said, have you the truth of it, much needs setting aright. Even so, there is this to consider: although the Keltoi, or gods, or in combination, are responsible for much grief and rage, they gave me, they gave all of us, life as well. Without them we would not be. Hence, if the legend is true, we owe them our very existence. Those tales, though fraught with peril and desperation and fury and sorrow such as they are, without them we would not be."

That may be something to ponder when I'm in a philosophical mood....

I really enjoyed reading this...although I'm not sure what it was that made eireannaigh think of me when reading this. (Perhaps it's the fact that I spend most of my time in Faery? *grin* Maybe it was the Bear.) For whatever reason this story made eireannaigh pas this on to me, I'm glad she did. This re-telling of this fairy tale was very well done, although there was a time or two when I felt the dialog fell out of character. There are bits of this story that are of course obvious to the reader but that's probably because we have all heard a version of this fairy tale at some time or another. (I don't think I haven't heard this tale but assume that another I have heard was most likely based on this story.)

A quick read, none too deep for the most part. Rather predictable, of course. Scandinavian fairy tale with garnish; some of which he could have left out - I really didn't care what color outfit she wore or that the ribbons in her "golden hair" matched her outfit [over and over again; must have needed to reach a certain number of words for this book to be published]. I've certainly read better, but it was a good distraction when I needed it. Not a keeper for me. Will travel onwards in some town in mid-Missouri.
