This is an amazing story, it gives a human face to the news stories that flash up on our TV screens night after night. I sometimes think it is a bit too easy to tune out when we hear of yet another car bomb exploding in some far off market place, this book however, serves as a reminder of the terrible human suffering of the Iraqi people. I am amazed at the strength and will of these people to live, particularly the 'shadow women'.

Thank-you kirsty for sharing this book, I will get it out to viola7 ASAP.

Update: Posted May1, 2005.

I received this the other day and I've started reading it. It's going to be traumatic but interesting.

Journal Entry 7 by Viola7 from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Monday, May 15, 2006
This was very difficult to read at times and I tended to skim through the torture scenes which were very harrowing. However, it's a very interesting account of Iraqi history and the story of a very brave woman.

Finished this book in one day as it was a gripping read. The strength of the women in the prison is humbling indeed. It doesn't hurt to be reminded sometimes that our own problems pale into insignificance when confronteed with lives like these. Thanks kirsymorgan for sharing this book.
