Well, I quit 1/4 into chapter two. I find this troubling and depressing. I just couldn't enjoy reading about her. I'm just not sure what all the hoopla was about. I might try this some time in the future but it is just to depressing right now.

Cool, shellyann! I've wanted to read this for a very long time! Thanks for fulfilling a wish of mine; I owe ya one.

Ultimately, this was a disappointing read. There wasn't much of a story that kept me turning the pages; it was the writing that did (along with the knowledge that my friend SandDanz loves this book). The characters were strong -- would you believe I liked Mrs. Ash?? -- but the story seemed directionless for too long, and Mary's decision at the tavern bothered me. I just had trouble buying that this girl, with everything she had in front of her, would make that choice.

Since Shellyann was kind enough to RABCK this to me, I'll do the same and keep it moving.
