The Back of the Book

Whatever the year ahead holds in store, the truth is that it's not what life throws at us that counts - it's how we deal with it.

Recognising and tuning into the cycles of nature is a fundamental key to magical living. And living magically will help us to maximise th positive in our lives, and give us strength and courage to face the negatives.

Witchcraft is not just for Halloween. It is a way of life, a daily discovery. It can help us to mjaintain a positive attitude, and to maximise our chances of success - at home, at work, in love and with friends.

In tune with the natural flow of magic, practising white witch, Morgana, offeres you the intimate secrets o fher personal strength. She has created this inspirational collection of spells and rituals, features on the concepts of the Craft, and insights into natural magic, festivals and magical correspondences.

The calendar offers you a guide to the most positive and beneficial influences of every day of the year. Combined, they can only enhance your positive life skills.

The aim of The Witch's Almanac is simple: to help us re-discover the beauty of nature and the magic of the Craft and show us how to use use it to make our lives better every day.

I wasn't as impressed by this book as I'd hoped having been very taken by the concept.

The opening chapters give some information on Wicca but I felt that they covered the 'what Wiccans do' without giving enough information on the 'why Wiccan do' and that made me uncomfortable with it as I don't think it's right to do something 'because I read it in a book' you need to know why you're doing it in order to decide if it's right for you or not.

Obviously it's not a book you read from cover to cover - after the introductory chapters it's split into weeks giving astrological information and suggestions of 'spells' to be worked during the week. I'm not sure I would use them - I don't really believe that something will work because you lit three yellow candles on a Monday or whatever but I shall hang onto the book for the rest of the year to look at some of the suggested themes.

While I found parts of this book interresting I was dissapointed that it focused so much on the how without going into the why and did not go into any real depth instead it suggested other books to read. I will PM kaetzchen for their addy and hope to get to the PO next week.
