Picked this up at a charity shop in Kilburn last week when I was shopping there for second hand books with my husband Henk1977 and friend naturallybear.

Thank you redhouse for this book from my wishlist! I love being able to cross some wishes off and today was a good day for that! I got 5 books in the post and even though 3 of them were rings it was great for my wishlist :)

I will try and read this asap because I have not really enjoyed the last 2 Jane Green books I tried to read so I really want another good experience with this author!

I will either release this at an English meet-up or I will trade it.

This book reminded me why I liked Jane Green. I really didn't like the last 2 books I tried to read that were written by her but this one really was good.

I liked the idea of the 'Other woman' being the Mother-in-law and I could really see where Ellie was coming from by saying she wanted to be part of a real family. I could also understand alot of other aspects of the story too as I am sure alot of people could.

I liked the characters and the storyline was good. Lots of twists that I didn't see coming but also a few parts that I had guessed would happen before they did. I loved the epilogue at the end because it tied up all the loose ends for me. I wish alot of other books would have a 2 year look into the future at the end :)

My Review: October 2006

I did not get disappointed, this sure was a nice book. I especially loved how it made me switch sides again and again. Sometimes I was totally on Ellies' side, wanting to scream at her why she doesn't put her foot down. At other times I also could relate to Linda, and how she just wants to be nice, helpful and involved. I thought about how I would feel as a young mother, and on the other hand I thought about my own mother who is a mother-in-law and myself being an aunt. And when we buy things for my little niece we just have fun making her a present. I understand both sides, and it's hard always doing the right things in these situations, meaning showing interest in the new parts of the family but not getting on their nerves. Not always easy...

I didn't like the way the problems were resolved in the end. Especially the episode with Lisa. I just couldn't understand why Ellie was so mad at Lisa and why it hurt her!! What did it have to do with her personally???? All people involved were grown up, and in my opinion it was cleary nothing of Ellie's business.

I finally got around to reading this one, it has been sitting on my shelf for ages!
It was OK, but I was not impressed. I loved Jane Green's "Bookends" but her other books are just OK. While reading it, it reminded me a lot of "Little Earthquakes" by Jen Weiner, I think, so I got the feeling I've read it before, I think it was very similar (at least my memory of it)


I will take it to the next English meetup on June 3rd.
