Brokeback Mountain

8 journalers for this copy...
Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist, two ranch hands, come together when they're working as sheepherder and camp tender one summer on a range above the tree line. At first, sharing an isolated tent, the attraction is casual, inevitable , but something deeper catches them that summer.
Both men work hard, marry, and have kids because that's what cowboys do. But over the course of many years and frequent seperations this relationship becomes the most important thing in their lives, and they do anything they can to preserve it.
I read this in a pretty small space of time. It is the first thing I have read by Annie Proulx and I like her writing style. I think I will be reading the shipping news at some point soon.

This book reached me sometime over the last two weeks, while I was on vacations. I have several other rings to read, so it might take a couple of weeks before it gets going again.
I finished the book a couple of days ago, and mailed it to Suefitz yesterday. It was really nice. I have a ring for "The Shipping News" here, so now I am looking forward to reading more Annie Proulx.
Got as a part of ring - will move on quickly.
What a great book - when I finally got to you. Quick read.

Releasing to Aramena - next in the ring.
Arrived over the weekend!
I finished this last night and am not sure how I felt about it. I think my attention was more riveted in the second half of the book, after they left Brokeback Mountain. This is the first thing I've read by Proulx, although I have a couple of her books in my TBR pile.
I'm just waiting for beckerbuns' address and then this will be off in the mail.

Took a while to get here, but here it is. I should be able to read this one quickly.
Edit 11/1 I finished this book on 10/30. I was expecting a bit more, I guess, because it's pretty disappointing. It's not a work of literary genius, to be sure, and even more I'm having a hard time understanding how the movie got so much acclaim, unless the plot was changed significantly from the book. I've PM'd the next person and will send the book on shortly.

Well, can't quite fathom how this was made into a film (not see the film as yet) the book is so short! Overall I really enjoyed this book but it would benefit from being alot longer to possible explain the relationship between the two men alot better.
Journal Entry 16 by kinedi from Rushyford, County Durham United Kingdom on Thursday, January 18, 2007
Arrived safely in Scotland.Thanks. Just finished another book at lunchtime today which means I can start reading immediately
I have attempted to read Annie Proulx before (''The Shipping News'') and always found her difficult to get into. However, I had heard that ''Brokeback Mountain'' was different and it certainly was. I liked the language she used and when Ennis discovers the two shirts in Jack's wardrobe I thought that because of its simplicity,it was really very touching.
I agree that I can't see how such a short book can be turned into a 2 hrs Hollywood blockbuster - I surely would not have minded the story to continue a little longer.
Thanks for sharing this bookring with us !

On its way to Drusillamac now. Happy Reading
I received this in the post this morning. Thanks to charlenemartel and kinedi for sharing :-)
I was convinced I had already bought a copy of this book but a quick search didn't pull it up. Until Mount TBR fell over a few nights ago. As I already have a copy of the book, I'm going to pass this one onto the next member of the ring.
Apologies for taking a while to update this ring. Crestfallen advised me she has got another copy of the book. I shall PM charlenemartel to see what she would like me to do with the book.
I posted this back to charlenemartel via surface mail this morning. As per the post office it can take up to 12 weeks to arrive (though this rarely happens!).
This arrived safely back home with me :)
Thank you everyone for making my first book ring a success!!
