Yay! Thanks for all the books! *Mwah* ************** Ella Minnow Pea is a girl living happily on the fictional island of Nollop off the coast of South Carolina. Nollop was named after Nevin Nollop, author of the immortal pangram,* “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” Now Ella finds herself acting to save her friends, family, and fellow citizens from the encroaching totalitarianism of the island’s Council, which has banned the use of certain letters of the alphabet as they fall from a memorial statue of Nevin Nollop. As the letters progressively drop from the statue they also disappear from the novel. The result is both a hilarious and moving story of one girl’s fight for freedom of expression, as well as a linguistic tour de force sure to delight word lovers everywhere. *pangram: a sentence or phrase that includes all the letters of the alphabet

What a cute read. It was confusing at times trying to understand what they were saying at the end. Well in the beginning too. They used such big words. LOL I'm embarrassed to say I had to look some up in a dictionary. Wouldn't it be scary if this really happened? Although if you look back in history and compare it has happened.

What a delightful book this was! A fun diversion after some 'heavy' reading I've been doing, and I was really impressed with Mark Dunn's ability to stick to the laws of Nollop as each letter was removed! This was a wonderful fable about power and totalitarianism - and, though it doesn't reach the heights of 'Animal Farm' (what could!), manages to deliver its message whilst being entertaining and amusing. This one deserves a re-read some time... though when that will happen I have no idea! Thanks for sharing this one with me, cheesy! I REALLY enjoyed it!
