Journal Entry 1 by book-man-8 from Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Friday, March 17, 2006
Jen Lancaster is a new author. She went from ex-sorority-girl to a highly sucessful woman in business. From a super penthouse to the barrio. One day swimming in money - and spending it faster than you could watch, to jobless, nearly homeless and sliding down the social ladder at a ever increasing speed. Sure, "the bitch had it coming"... Because Jen is a bitch, a real one!

I really liked this book. It is funny, hilarious, sometimes nearly incredible, but in the whole absolutely truthful and honest. As I seem to be the first bookcrosser to have registered this book with bookcrossing, I will make an international ray with it.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

Starting this bookray today by sending this book to "bookreadera" from Pottstown, PA, USA.

Journal Entry 3 by bookreadera from Pottstown, Pennsylvania USA on Thursday, March 30, 2006
arrived in the afternoon post and I can't wait to start. Thanks for the postcard as well. It's stunning.

Journal Entry 4 by bookreadera from Pottstown, Pennsylvania USA on Thursday, May 11, 2006
I enjoyed this book. Particularly due to the fact that the author was able to see, and laugh at, her own faults.

Sorry I held on to it for so long. I simply forgot that I had it. (I know, bad bookcrosser.) Sent off today to sarradee. And thanks for including me in the ray.

Journal Entry 5 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Monday, May 22, 2006
Arrived today along with another ring, when it rains it pours. :) No problem, I read pretty quick, I'll have this along it's way in no time. I'm pm'ing the next on the list for their address now so when I'm done it will be ready to move along.

Journal Entry 6 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Sunday, May 28, 2006
Read during a long car ride to the in-law's house. I ultimately enjoyed this story, even though at first I thought the author was incredibly shallow and I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to like about her. After a chapter or two, I realized that she was exaggerating her flaws just a little while laughing at herself. By the end, I found that I wanted things to work out well, and was happy for the good news, and sorry for the bad.

I've got macdonv's address and will be dropping this off at the post office on Tuesday (5/30) afternoon for its trip to Canada.

Journal Entry 7 by macdonv from Windsor, Ontario Canada on Friday, June 16, 2006
This arrived yesterday, and even though I'm currently in the middle of two other books, I peeked at the first page. Next thing I know, I'm 45 pages in, when all I planned on doing was seeing what was what! I should have this done in no time, and it looks like I'll enjoy every minute of it!

Journal Entry 8 by macdonv from Windsor, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, June 20, 2006
This was a fantastic book. It's amazing how having money will put a person so out of touch with the real world, but as Jen Lancaster shows, there's a real person in all of us. She just happens to be a person with a scathing comeback, a razor wit, and a knack for writing. I laughed out loud at so many parts, that when I finished the book, I looked up her website (http://www.jennsylvania.com), which is daily doses of what made her book so great, and which I've now bookmarked.

Thank you, book-man-8, for introducing me to an author I'll be keeping my eye out for!

I've PM'd BrooklinBrat for her addy, then it's off in the post.

ETA: Mailed on June 27 or 28 (maybe 29th?), XpressPost.

Journal Entry 9 by BrooklinBrat from Brooklin, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, July 5, 2006
Arrived safely yesterday.

I have to say that as I read this, the only thing that makes me want to continue to read the story of a woman so MEAN is the promise that somewhere in here, she's going to get her comeuppance!

Oh, and thank you Book-Man-8 for the wonderful postcard - what a beautiful island! I guess I have no reason to be jealous of your weather this time though, since there are certainly no icicles hanging from the roof now!! (It's hot hot HOT and muggy here in the GTA!)

Journal Entry 10 by BrooklinBrat from Brooklin, Ontario Canada on Saturday, July 8, 2006
Finished this last night, and enjoyed it fairly well...

It was nice to see that Jen Lancaster finally came to realize that the majority of us DO have to work hard to keep what little we may have...and that there are more important things than having your hair perfectly coloured...

But it wasn't EXACTLY riches to rags, was it? Could have been though, I guess...

All in all not a bad read, and I laughed out loud a few times.

I'll PM awakeagain for an address and pass it on as soon as I can.

Journal Entry 11 by BrooklinBrat from Brooklin, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
On its way to awakeagain.

Thanks book-man-8 for letting me participate!

Journal Entry 12 by awakeagain from Port Murray, New Jersey USA on Monday, July 17, 2006
Rec'd this bookring. Will start within the next two or three days.

Journal Entry 13 by awakeagain from Port Murray, New Jersey USA on Saturday, July 22, 2006
I'm not sure how I missed the fact that this book isn't chick lit but a non-fiction account of Jen Lancaster journey from "it's all about me" rich bitch with an expense account to facing eviction, but I didn't catch until until I was finished. A terrific read and some good lessons along the way. Kudos to Jen and to Fletch for hanging in for the ride.

Will be mailing to theredhead this coming week.

Journal Entry 14 by theredhead from Chicago, Illinois USA on Sunday, August 13, 2006
Rec'd in the mail. Sorry for the delay in logging it.

Journal Entry 15 by theredhead from Chicago, Illinois USA on Sunday, September 10, 2006
I loved this book so much more than I thought I would. I really related to where the author ended up and I fully intend to hit her blog asap.

Journal Entry 16 by theredhead from Chicago, Illinois USA on Wednesday, October 18, 2006
Have I mentioned that I am a bad bookcrosser? Yes, I held on to this way too long and I am very, very sorry! I plan on creating a karma repairing bookbox soon. My only excuse is that I have been sick for a while and it has distracted me from everything. Sorry!
It will be put in the mail today. I promise!
Jennifer

PS. Have I mentioned that I am sorry?

Journal Entry 17 by Karenlea from Glendale, California USA on Thursday, October 26, 2006
Caught!!! I have a few rings/rays ahead of it, but I should be able to start it soon. Thank you for sharing.

Journal Entry 18 by Karenlea from Glendale, California USA on Sunday, November 5, 2006
It took me a few chapters to get into this book, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. Jen Lancaster had me laughing out loud in several parts of the book. I could really relate to the Las Vegas wedding and apartment hunting chapters. I also got a big kick out of her landlord being Bill Rancic from "The Apprentice."

I strongly disliked Jen for a majority of the book, but I grew fond of her towards the end. I love her writing style and humor.

This book is being posted to Nell-Lu on 11-9-06. I made several attempts to get in contact with Hshah (pm, personal email and ISO in the forums), but could not reach her.

Thank you to Book-Man-8 for sharing such a fun book.

Journal Entry 19 by Nell-Lu from Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom on Monday, November 20, 2006
This just arrived - thanks Karenlea and book-man-8. I'll start reading towards the end of the week when I finish my current book.

Journal Entry 20 by Nell-Lu from Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom on Wednesday, November 22, 2006
This was totally a great read. Jen’s character is witty and sharp* and the overall effect is way amusing. Okay, some of her opinions are slightly to the right of Genghis Khan and some of her characters (including herself) are rather stereotyped, but that’s the world she’s in. Oh, and Fletch’s proposal? Sooo cute.**

I have stubee’s address, so this book will so be travelling again tomorrow.

* I’m sure that in real life she absolutely manages to think up all those amusing comments on the spot, and doesn’t ever come up with them later that evening when replaying the conversation for the millionth time.

** Seriously, Fletch is way cute.

Journal Entry 21 by stubee from Bury, Greater Manchester United Kingdom on Thursday, November 30, 2006
Arrived while I was holidaying in Valkenburg, I've just started another bookring but hope to get onto this shortly. Thanks book-man8 and Nell-Lu :o)

Journal Entry 22 by KT-J on Monday, January 22, 2007
Stubee was in the bookray for this but I nicked it off him when I saw it (this is so more my kind of book than his!) and I was not disappointed! This book was brilliant, really funny and the fact she referred to one of my other favourite series of books (the Shopoholic series by Sophie Kinsella) sold me!

I have to admit I actually really liked her character from the start of the book, and yes I know she was shallow, rude and I'd also have wanted to spit in her drink had I been her waitress, but you could tell that underlying that was someone sharp, witty and underneath it all, pretty down to earth (albeit way underneath!).

This is a fabulous book with a nice underlying moral story, and the fact that it's all true (even if exaggerated) shows where you can end up if you're not careful!

This has now been sent on to miekepieke.

Journal Entry 23 by miekepieke from Ulft, Gelderland Netherlands on Sunday, March 4, 2007
After travelling for about a month, this book finally arrived in my letterbox.

I will read it as soon as possible!

Thanks for sending!

Journal Entry 24 by BethanieKay from Melbourne, Florida USA on Thursday, June 7, 2007
miekepieke finished this book and sent it to me wayyyy back in April, but alas, the postal system has failed somehow, as it has yet to arrive

So, in order to keep this bookray moving, I have purchased a new copy of this book and am using the original BCID that book-man-8 got when he registered it back in March of 2006. I'm reading this book now (it's already hysterical, and I'm only 2 chapters in!) and will send to the next reader in the ray as soon as possible!

Journal Entry 25 by BethanieKay from Melbourne, Florida USA on Saturday, June 9, 2007
Wow, this book was ... in a word ... entertaining!

At first, I was absolutely floored at how pretentious and conceited Jen is; but at the same time I could not stop reading - because the way she describes herself and her life is just SO hysterical! As I continued to read, I actually started to respect her more, as she discovered what was truly important to her (Fletch, etc.) and what she could learn to live without (Prada bags, manicures, etc.), but she never gave up her sense of humor and her self-respect.

The fact that this was non-fiction made this book for me, because not only was it funny and entertaining, there really is an underlying lesson here. Overall, a fantastic book .. and one that I will recommend to fellow readers!

I've already got vainilla79's addy, so will post to her on Monday.

Journal Entry 26 by BethanieKay from Melbourne, Florida USA on Monday, June 11, 2007
