Light on Snow
11 journalers for this copy...
A young girl, who has just lost her mother and baby sister, finds a baby abandoned in the snow. There is not much more to this book than this. The reading audience, I would say, can be divided into two groups: those that would find this little plot to be a wonderful framework for an entire book and those who would say, "And then....?" If you are in the first group, you will love this book; if you are in the second group, find the latest Stephen King book and leave this one in the store.

Just received this and I'm looking forward to it since it's been on my wishlist for quite a while. I'll read it next and pass it on by April 15th. Thanks so much, efs300 and debnance!!!
I LOVED this book! If I had had no other obligations last week, I would have read it in one sitting. The parallel stories of the major events in Nicky's life were extremely interesting and at times suspenseful. It had a satisfying ending and it was really well told. I cared from the first chapter what happened to the people in the story and this isn't always the case with the books I read. Thanks for including me in this ray! Light on Snow will be going off to the next participant this week.
Just got in the mail today...will read shortly!!!
I really enjoyed this book...very fast read too!!! I loved the characters and how the story went back and forth between past and present to tell the whole story of Nicky's life and what things influenced it. The ending was a nice way to round out the storyline on the baby too!!!
This will be on it's way to perfcangel once I get the mailing info. Thanks for sharing!!!

Arrived today. Will get to it shortly. Thanks!
What a sweet story! I love hearing stories about someone walking into a person's life for a short time and having such an impact that their life is changed forever.
Thanks to efs300 for going to the trouble to restore a stalled bookray and to debnance for providing the book.

LindyLouMac who used to be on this bookray list offered the copy she just finished reading to split this rather long bookray into 2 parts, this book will continue as a US/Canada only bookray and her book will take all of the International people.
"Snow" arrived in Oregon this morning and I'm anxious to read it. Thanks.
What a nice book. Very enjoyable. The switchbacks were well done and easy to follow - always giving you more insight. The characters were all well rounded and delighteful...believable. You could feel the father and daughters healing and growth toward the end and you were pleased with them.
8/21/03 at last - Kimsbooks03 responded and this one will be able to resume its journey!
8/20/06 Update: finished this book and contracted the next four on the list - all have either not responded, or asked to be skipped.
Today, I will contact the next (fifth)reader!
Book received and will start reading it today.

Arrived safe and sound on Saturday, Sept 9. Will get to this book asap. As 3 rings/rays arrived at the same time.
This book has arrived safe and sound in Iowa. It should feel right at home here - we've got well over a foot of snow on the ground. I've already started reading (only on pg 14) and I'm already drawn into the story. I loved The Pilot's Wife by Shreve so I'm really looking forward to this one.
Wonderful read! Shreve's writing is descriptive and believable. I can picture every scene in my head as I read - a big plus IMHO. I'm glad that I got to read this book during the winter. I could *feel* the cold and could vividly image the physical actions of the characters walking through the snow, shoveling, and driving on slick roads. I also enjoyed the rich development of each character. They seemed very much like real people with genuine actions & emotions. The perspective of 12-year-old Nicky as narrator was great. I doubt I would have enjoyed the story nearly as much with the father (or some other adult) as narrator. Her youth gave just the right amount of innocence and energy to the plot. (Yes, technically I realize that Nicky is 30 as she writes about these events that happened to her when she was 12, but you get my point.)
I'll PM Bibliocrates and keep this one moving right along. Thanks for allowing me to participate in this book's journey!
Update: Bibliocrates has asked to be skipped. I've PMd missprisy.

I really enjoy Anita Shreve's novels and this one was fantastic! My sister in law just had a baby girl and it's hard to believe anyone would be willing to leave a newborn baby to die. Thank you efs300 for organizing this bookray.
