The first in Kay Hooper's 'shadows' trilogy.

Psychic Cassie Neill helps the L.A. police catch killers - until she makes a terrible mistake and an innocent child dies. Cassie flees to a small North Carolina town, hoping that a quiet life will silence the voices that invade her unwilling mind. But Cassie's abilities know few boundaries. And she's become certain - as no one else can be - that a murderer is stalking Ryan's Bluff.

It's his fury that Cassie senses first, then his foul thoughts and perverse excitement. Yet she doesn't know who he is or where he will strike. The sheriff won't even listen to her - until the first body is found exactly where and how she predicted. Now a suspect herself, she races desperately to unmask the killer in the only way she knows: by entering his twisted mind. Her every step is loaded with fear and uncertainty...because if he senses her within him, he'll trap her there, so deep she'll never find her way out.

In Stealing Shadows, Kay Hooper introduces FBI agent Noah Bishop, whose rare gift for seeing what others do not helps him solve the most puzzling cases. Now, Bishop's adventures continue in two new electrifying tales of psychic suspense.

Beware of what you see. It's dawn when the police arrive at the murder scene. The victim is propped against a tree, her eyes still open, her head tilted, her lips parted in a silent cry. Just as Cassie Neill predicted. Just as she saw while she was inside the killer's mind. The killer knew she was there. And next time he won't let her get away.

What is a bookring and how do I get in on it?(thanks go to PHC for her detailed instructions which helped me greatly in understanding the process)

A bookring begins when a bookcrosser decides to send a book on a controlled journey. A list of interested readers is set up and the book passes from one reader who reads it and then sends it along to the person next in line. Eventually the book ends up back in the hands of the original owner which, for this book, will be me, nikel27. A reader can join the bookring at any time unless I decide to close it (if that happens I'll make a note that the ring has closed).

What should I do when I receive the book?
Log on to bookcrossing and type in up journal entry so I know it reached you okay. Then private message (PM) the next person in line to get their mailing address so there will be no waiting once you finish the book, if they do not respond within 10 days PM the next reader in line (and me so I know they are no longer interested). Please read the book within 30 days and when complete add another journal entry with your comments. Tell me the truth :) Was it the best thing you ever read or a complete and utter waste of time? I love to talk to books, the good, the bad and ugly (ugly can sometimes be lots of fun to dissect), you can write one sentence or a hundred. When finished
What if I'm the last in line PM me and I'll send you my mailing address.

Thanks for participating!

Please PM me if would like to be added to the list or have any questions about the book or the bookring!

Intriguing book. I read some info at Kay Hooper's web site indicating that not only is this book the first of a trilogy, but the trilogy is the first of several in a related story arc. I'm going to get started on the next book right away so I can get this part of the BookRing on its way to BunnyLady.

Stealing Shadows was my first sampling of Kay Hooper's work. It's also the first in her ongoing Special Crimes Unit series comprised of trilogies featuring Noah Bishop. In this first book in the Shadows trilogy, a psychic, Cassie Neill, helps the L.A. police catch killers until she flees to Ryan's Bluff, a small North Carolina town, after making a terrible mistake resulting in the death of an innocent child. Cassie hopes to live a quiet life in Ryan's Bluff, but a killer is on the loose, invading her mind, and Cassie becomes a suspect. I really enjoyed this suspenseful whodunit and look forward to the next book in the trilogy, Hiding in the Shadows.

Thank you for sharing nikel27, will go ahead and post this one on to BooksnBeer immediately and read the next two Shadow books in my possession very shortly...

Just finished this one and it is already on it’s way to the next person.

I enjoyed this, it was a quick read and the characters are intriguing. This is my first introduction to Kay Hooper. I do look forward to a lot more character development. It seems that she is still trying to find the storylines in this first book. I want to know “why” she can’t read some people. I am looking forward to the next few books in this series with further action and a lot more character development.

Sorry it has taken me longer then expected to get through with this book. I had surgery earlier this month (Jan. 5th), and then had a bad reaction to one of my aftercare meds, and THEN had one of the incisions get infected.
So I have been down and out a lot the last few weeks. Feeling better now and getting things back on track again.
I have it read now and will get it sent along shortly (hopefully this coming weekend).
I did enjoy it very much. It was a great read, very suspenseful. Thank you for sharing it with me.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - great characters, an intruiging plot and a satisfying conclusion. I'd never heard of this author before but I'm so glad that I noticed the offer for this spiral! I'm very much looking forward to the rest in the series. Well written, interesting and highly recommended.

Thanks, nikel27!
