In May 2005 Penguin will publish 70 unique titles to celebrate the company's 70th birthday. The titles in the Pocket Penguins series are emblematic of the renowned breadth of quality of the Penguin list and will hark back to Penguin founder Allen Lane's vision of good books for all'. One of the great masters of lyrical melancholy, Truman Capote remains admired for both his fiction including Breakfast at Tiffany's and the pioneering In Cold Blood, a non-fiction novel' telling the true story of a brutal murder. Penguin Modern Classics publish the full range of Capote's novels and short stories, and the tales in My Side of the Matter show to the full the blend of cynicism, humour and love that characterized his finest work.

Neglected to journal (sorry Kirsten) after the Sydney meetup last week. Thanks!

Well yes, this was pretty cynical! Three of the stories, for my taste, displayed exemplary wit with their surprise endings and surreal encounters. I loved them, and I wish the little book had been packed with these three- or six-page gems than with the defensive waffle that characterises the title story, which consumes almost half the little book with misanthropy (or is it more particularly misogyny?).

Thanks kirst040, and nice to see you again last night too. This is now reserved for aleonblue and will travel with the three bookrings I have to return to her, as soon as I've finished them all.

This little book accompanies some bookrings as a RABCK from Xoddam - thanks so much. I've been looking forward to reading more of Truman Capone's books after "Cold Blood" & that old classic "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

An enjoyable and quick read of 4 of Truman Capote's short stories. It's amazing how different each of them are, and even more amazing how he can draw you into each one so quickly - definitely great writing. I'll be on the lookout for more of his stories.
