I adore Margaret Atwood's writing and I remember enjoying this book very much.
I picked up this copy at a library book sale specifically to share through BookCrossing.
Book description:
The Blind Assassin opens with these simple, resonant words: "Ten days after the war ended, my sister Laura drove a car off a bridge." They are spoken by Iris, whose terse account of her sister's death in 1945 is followed by an inquest report proclaiming the death accidental. But just as the reader expects to settle into Laura's story, Atwood introduces a novel-within-a-novel. Entitled The Blind Assassin, it is a science fiction story told by two unnamed lovers who meet in dingy backstreet rooms. When we return to Iris, it is through a 1947 newspaper article announcing the discovery of a sailboat carrying the dead body of her husband, a distinguished industrialist. Brilliantly weaving together such seemingly disparate elements, Atwood creates a world of astonishing vision and unforgettable impact.

I'll be bringing this to Breeze144 when I see her at the Oakville meetup at the beginning of April :)
Picked this up today at the Oakville meet-up! Thanks for bringing it for me Morsie!
Atwood is one of my favorite authors, so I was really surprised when I didn't feel 'into' this book. I've been trying to read it for over 2 weeks now and its just not catching....I'm really annoyed with the changing between stories. Jumping between Iris and Laura as children, Iris as an elderly woman and Laura's novel just seems to happen too often! I feel like as soon as I'm into one story line we hop to another one and they just don't flow.....
I bet it is a really good book if you have the energy to drag through the stories, which I don't have...
I'll be passing this along asap.

Received today, thanks! I had actually completely forgotten about this book. It was from the CANADA ONLY relay.
Finally a Margaret Atwood book I could get into! (I've struggled with the others I've tried to read so far...) Although I doubt I'll ever become a big fan...
Reserved for carelaisa, hoping she will like it as well.

Thanks for the book. I hope I will like it - I've read a novel by the same author many years ago and I am now interested to read more of her. We'll see about this one!
Finally, I''ve read the book! [it wasn''t a good idea to start this one the same week as I got the 7th Harry Potter book...]. I''ve finished it a couple of weeks ago and I must admit that I quite enjoyed it. Though I''ve found the beginning a bit slow and somehow uninteresting, the more I read, the more I got into the story. I really liked the concept of having a novel within a novel (I really liked the "story") and also having the news articles related to the periods narrated by the main character. Overall, I liked it better that "The Handmaid''s Tale", which I''ve read many years ago...

Look at all the readers this book has already had! Thanks so much carelaisa, I look forward to reading this very much. You have definately made me smile. :o)
So far, this is my favourite Atwood novel. I loved the way the threads of separate stories wove together. Plus, she uses beautiful language and such vivid descriptions. Really really good.
