Book Description
A place of salmon runs, ancient totems, and a lesson a young vicar must learn....

Amid the grandeur of the remote Pacific Northwest stands Kingcome, a village so ancient that, according to Kwakiutl myth, it was founded by the two brothers left on earth after the great flood. The Native Americans who still live there call it Quee, a place of such incredible natural richness that hunting and fishing remain primary food sources. But the old culture of totems and potlatch is being replaces by a new culture of prefab housing and alcoholism. Kingcome's younger generation is disenchanted and alienated from its heritage. And now, coming upriver is a young vicar, Mark Brian, on a journey of discovery that can teach him -- and us -- about life, death, and the transforming power of love.

April 17th 2006 is BookCrossing’s 5th Anniversary!

In honor of this event bookcrosser solittletime decided to challenge us with the Race to Three Million Registered Books. I am encouraged that we can reach the goal of registering 3 million books. Of course, I thought this was a great idea and had to be involved! :)

Amazingly, I have many books hiding around the apartment that still needed to be registered. This challenge was the push I needed to register them.

Here is a list of where I find most of my books:
Beaverton Library’s Book Corner
Powell’s bookstore
Annie Blooms Books
Amazon.com
Goodwill
Library sales
and any where else I happen to see a book that catches my eye :)

This book was found at the Friends of the Beaverton Library’s used bookstore, the Book Corner. Most paperbacks are 50 cents and most hard covers are only $1.00! All of the proceeds go to helping support the beautiful Beaverton Library, my second home.

This book is promised to morsecode.

Thanks SO much, kbgoffe!

I just finished this lovely little book.
While I did not find I heard the owl call my name to be life-changing, I did appreciate Craven's sensitive descriptions and the simplicity of the book as a whole.

As a side note: it's really interesting to read the customer reviews of this book on amazon because the majority of the reviewers are kids who were "forced" to read the book for school.

Received this book with a card in the mail today. Thanks morsecode!
I have seen a dutch version of this book which was quite large, so I was a bit surprised upon receiving this sleek little book. I will enjoy reading it none the less!

I had trouble understanding the story at first because although there are two people in the story in the beginning Sam, Jim and the young vicar are mentioned. It took me a while to discover Sam is the young vicar. Fortunately from chapter 2 the story took off and I liked it so much I finished reading the book in only one day. I liked the story a lot, nice calm writing style.
