Pre-numbered label used for registration.

I'm reading this as part of the Australian Readers Challenge of 2006.

It is a New Zealand novel with an autistic child as the central figure.

This was an unusual book but very gripping. The writing style is unusual, poetic but vividly shows the innermost feelings of 3 very different people. I had expected more of Maori traditions butthey were kept in the background but do affect the story. At one stage I was angry at the author for what she caused to happen but all was forgiven before the end. It is interesting that the heroine's name is very similar to the authors and many of the early emotions seem to be her own. I highly recommend this book although I really read it as part of the ARC readers' challenge of 2006.

Found this book difficult to read, but never the less fascinating. AS noted in the above notes, I too expected many Maori traditions to be explained to the reader and was disappointed. However its heritage and wonderful countryside show strongly throughout.
A passionate book!
