I get the impression that this 1920s work was quite an influence on modern fantasy.
The ideas in it certainly come up often enough, and haven't yet been misused the way Tolkien's have...
Worth reading if you like the literature of that period, or want to see what fantasy was like before everyone stopped having their own ideas and started using Tolkien's instead.
