The Birth and Death of the Miracle Man : A Collection of Short Stories by
5 journalers for this copy...
There are 12 stories in this book, all about the island of Samoa and the people who live there. I picked it up at my local used book shop.
Note: this book is filling the slot for a book by an author from Samoa in my attempt at the "Olympic Challenge" - reading books by authors from all 202 countries that participate in the Olympics, in 2 years. The bio in this book, published in 1986, puts the author still living and working in Samoa but a Google search indicates that he now lives in New Zealand. Although I haven't tried to determine his actual citizenship, he's still listed as a Samoan author in many places so I'm counting him for Samoa.

- When done, take a minute to journal your impressions and note that you're sending the book on. I love reading various people's feelings on books - we're bound to have different viewpoints.
- Yes, sometimes “life happens”. If you find yourself running behind or need to be skipped, etc., please PM me letting me know what’s up and we can work it out.

OK. Things got crazy here but I finally got the book finished and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to catch a glimpse of alternature cultures and I haven't read a short stories book in quite some time. Now that I have, I am sure I will be reading more of them. I loved that various themes and I am sure if life hadn't repeatedly got in the way of my reading, it would have been one of those books I couldn't put down.
Thank you for sharing and I have the details of Sheepseeker. I will be popping it in the mail next week.

Thank you again for sharing Hobbit!
The book arrived today- thanks!
This ist the first 'Oceania' book I really enjoyed. These stories are well written and not as weird as the others I read before. I will look out for more books by Wendt! I think, 'Elena's son' was my favourite one but it's hard to choose...
Thnks for sharing this one with us, hobbit! The book will travel to Finland as of Monday...

I don't know if I enjoyed the book or just waited for it's end. I liked some of the stories, but not all of them. After all it was nice to read about culture I didn't know before.
This book will be part of my Book From Every Country -challenge.
Katyan is next in the ray.
Thank you for organizing this ring.

Thank you for organizing this ring.
This book arrived here on Friday, thank you very much! I was happy to notice I can keep this book, well, mostly because I have so many rings here currently, so now I don't have to hurry with this one...:) But I'll let it continue its journey after I've finished reading it.
These were nice short stories from Samoa, it was nice to get to know another culture via them. The book will stay here for a while looking for a new reader!
